The individual circumstances of your contact will dictate which route you can do down to claim some or all of you money back for the monitoring contract you took out with SAS. If you are in any doubt or wish further information please contact Consumer Direct Scotland on 08454 040506."

Ministers axe alarm company after we expose executives' links to hard-selling sharks

May 1 2011 Lauren Crooks, Sunday Mail
THE Government have moved to shut down a new alarm firm after we exposed their links to sharks SAS Fire & Security.
Skynet Security Systems were put into liquidation after we told how the company were launched by executives from hardsell rogues SAS.
They were closed by business secretary Vince Cable after we exposed their cynical sales drive against vulnerable customers in a series of reports.
Last week Skynet's plush offices in Glasgow city centre were cleared out and provisional liquidators were appointed to wind up the firm.
The swift action came after our revelations last month from whistleblower Jim Melrose, 52.
He was a consultant with alarm sharks SAS launched by millionaire ex footballer David Diaz when he transferred to Skynet in January.
But he discovered the firm were run by senior exSAS staff who used the same ruthless, hardselling tactics.
His revelations led to a trading standards probe and a petition to appoint a provisional liquidator by the Insolvency Service, part of Cable's Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
The Insolvency Service said: "A provisional liquidator was appointed to Skynet Security Systems on April 21, 2011."
In a separate move, Cable's department have also moved to sink two other companies with links to SAS and Skynet. They have appointed the official receiver as liquidator for Homeguard Fire & Security and CIS Security.
The director at Skynet was Warren Sneader while Anthony Johnstone was a former director.
Sneader was a regional manager in Glasgow for SAS while Johnstone was a branch manager.
They strongly denied their new firm had any links to SAS.
A spokesman for Cable's department said: "The petitions to wind up the companies were presented following confidential inquiries.
"On the application of the secretary of state, the official receiver has been appointed by the court as provisional liquidator of both companies. The role of the receiver is to protect the assets and SHAMED financial records of the company, pending determination of the petition.
"The provisional liquidator also has the power to investigate the affairs of the company in so far as it is necessary to protect the assets including any third party or trust monies or assets in the possession of or under the control of the company."
"The matters are now before the courts so no further information will be made available until the petitions are determined.
"The petitions are listed for hearing in June or July 2011".
Aver Chartered Accountants in Edinburgh have been appointed as provisional liquidators for Skynet Security Systems.

"Central Intelligence Security Solutions Limited was incorporated on 23 November 2010 and is believed to have commenced selling monitored domestic burglar and fire alarms to the general public.
On 20 January 2011, officers of Company Investigations were authorised, pursuant to Section 447(3) of the Companies Act 1985, to commence enquiries into the affairs of this company.

Following enquiries carried out by Company Investigations a petition was presented for the company to be wound up on public interest grounds, on 15 April 2011, by the Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills.

The Official Receiver was appointed Provisional Liquidator of the company on 18 April 2011. The Official Receiver has been informed by company officers that the monitoring of customers alarms was undertaken by a third party who ceased to provide such monitoring services with effect from 19 April 2011. Customers should therefore be aware that the company ceased to provide monitoring and response services on or around 19 April 2011 and it is not the Official Receiver’s intention to recommence the provision of any such services."

  • Where does UK MARS fit in? I thought from this forum it was also closed down. They phoned me today to say my alarm had gone off! (Another false alarm). I did not pay the £100 requested.

We had the same experience but never thought to ask who was phoning us when we had a false alarm. We never paid the £99 either. Strange that there is monitoring still going on.

Has anybody had any progress with their claims to their Credit Card Company. Just wondering what they will offer.

The alarm are not going off, nor is there any monitoring.

The Monitoring And Response Solutions company, founded by SAS ex-executives, have your contact details and were doing this in an effort to get you to send them yet more money.

Of course, that is all over now - see this web page:-

    Solar Energy cold callers

Published: Tuesday 19 Apr 2011 by Fife Council
Trading Standards professionals are warning Fife consumers to be on their guard against door to door salesmen canvassing for solar panels and energy saving installations.

There have been reports of residents being cold called by telephone or receiving unsolicited home visits from representatives claiming to be linked with the recently liquidated company SAS Fire and Security Systems Ltd who sold home alarm systems often with expensive maintenance contracts. The representatives state that they are now offering the installation of solar panels or other similar energy saving devices on a special offer but that the householder must sign up today in order to get the lower price. This is a high pressure tactic designed to dissuade people from taking time to compare other suppliers. The representatives also state that any surplus energy that the householder makes from the solar panels can be fed back into the National Grid and they will be paid for this. This part is true, however consumers are strongly advised to deal only with installers who are MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) registered. The MCS is a quality assurance scheme.

John Geddes, Fair Trading Team Leader said, “We would strongly advise people not to sign up to contracts of this nature following unsolicited home visits by cold callers. Always take time to think about what you are being offered and do not sign up there and then but instead do a bit of industry research to find out what a reasonable cost would be. We strongly recommend contacting the MCS to find a registered installer in your area and to ask any questions that you might have”.

The MCS website is www.microgenerationcertification.org and their contact telephone number 0207 090 1082. For information on Feed-In Tariffs contact the Energy Saving Trust at www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Generate-your-own-energy or call 0800 512 012.
