A wireless alarm is not comparable with a wired alarm, they are incredibly easy to bypass for anyone who spends a about £40 on the right equipment.

The above is the main reason Insurance companies don't normally recognise them, for commercial premises the police would not even respond to this type of alarm.

You could buy a decent wired alarm for that sort of money and have is monitored and maintained by a company who are a member of NACOSS or NSI which an Insurer would recognise.
  • For those of you boys who want to discuss the merits of different alarm systems, please post in this thread:-

(yawn!) hmmm says a lot !

[FONT=&quot]I have gone with Mars UK for monitoring see how it goes £99. seems any other company I got in just wanted to sell me a complete package!! or the cheapest monthly cost £24 but that was just calling key holders !

My Mum has had less hassle with the Datiem then I have had with 6 Year old ADT.. The feature I liked was being able to call her House and check it was On/Off and if need be turn it on when she was out, Looked up Datiem and no you would not be able to buy a system at B&Q in fact you cannot buy it retail it is for professionals.

Thinking of following the lead of soupdragon1 and signing up with Monitoring And Response Solutions?

    Read this first:-

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/business-news/2011/04/03/workers-blows-whistle-on-alarm-sharks-as-they-form-new-company-86908-23035372/

Then perhaps you should also review post by #55 smezzer
    post_old.gif 01-04-2011, 8:15 PM. Brief extract:-

"Then she shows me the letter she got from monitoring and response solutions uk - alarm bells rang not only over the £99 admin fee they were asking her for - WHICH SHE PAID ON GETTING THE LETTER for fear of being left high and dry! (I later checked with trading standards she did not have to pay as they were just taking over an existing service)"

    Interesting!

  • Just to let all you SAS lovers know - Yes they have stopped trading under all known names HOWEVER they are now selling Solar Panels, well for this week anyway (was double glazing last week)... I will find out the name they are trading under and let you know...
  • Hi the companies are NSI approved to NACOSS Gold. The first one ADT started off with the standard £399 but by the time you added the fire alarm and additional sensors (required for a 3 bedroom house) oh plus the panic button it ended up at £650 and then £28.00 a month for maintenance, monitoring and police and fire response. To get the calls free if the alarm goes off you could then pay an additional £1 a month. Based on it being a B&Q alarm!! I also contacted GM Techtronic asking if they could provide contact info for companies who bought and installed their alarms in the hope that one would take out a contract for my alarm, no answer so far. I am loosing confidence in all security companies at the moment and part of me thinks the whole game is a gamble just take UK monitoring & Response up on their offer.
Were the companies that you called out registered with any of the accredited certification bodies?

Police and Trading Standards suggest that you should select companies who are registered with one or more of the following:-
    • Metopolitan Police Service report on selecting an alarm system and some very usefull advice, see this web page:-

Of course, it is well known that SAS were not members of any of these organisations. In addition, the replacement companies (CISSL [deceased], Home Guard UK & Skynet Security Systems) are claiming to be "applying".

And why would we want to know this? Are you going to start telling us they are lying about daylight hours when they sell Solar Panels? All I care about is my monitoring, if you want to start a post about something else then go ahead but please make it relevant. I really don't care about Solar Panels, or Double Glazing, we are talking Alarms and monitoring here.
Gave up trying to have funny Sigs..

It's an open forum, anyone can post about anything they desire providing it does not breach forum rules.

I realise this but start a new thread if you feel this "new" Solar Company has done something wrong, we are discussing SAS Fire and Security on here, not Solar Panels.
