[ The representatives state that they are now offering the installation of solar panels or other similar energy saving devices on a special offer but that the householder must sign up today in order to get the lower price. This is a high pressure tactic designed to dissuade people from taking time to compare other suppliers.

Which is a breach of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Business Practices specific rule 6

    6. Limited time only
Falsely stating that a product will only be available for a very
limited time, or that it will only be available on particular
terms for a very limited time, in order to elicit an immediate
decision and deprive consumers of sufficient opportunity
or time to make an informed choice.

Can someone clarify this - if they install virtually immediately, eg the day after you sign the contract, you've lost your cooling off period? Because I'm worried this happened to me this weekend. How can I find out how old a company is? The company is http://www.bulldog-securityltd.co.uk/. I wrote them a cheque but then told them it would bounce as I can't transfer money to that account so they say they will let me pay by credit card. Bought a 5 year contract. The company they use for monitoring seems reliable.
    Thanks.

You never lose the 7 day cooling off period, it's the law no matter what anyone says.

Thanks. Reading it it seems pretty clear that installation doesn't affect the cooling off period anyway. But I am worried - it was one of these 'special offers for only 4 people in your postcode'. But I haven't paid yet and will be paying it all by credit card, so that should protect me if they go out of business, etc.

And installed within 24 hours Was it for "just £1"?

    - that is just so SAS!

Anyone spotted any connection yet betwixt this BullDog Security and SAS?

OK - off we go - lets GO COMPARE these two web pages:-

    First from http://www.bulldog-securityltd.co.uk/FAQ

    Q. How quickly can I have an alarm installed?

    A. We recognise that having made the wise decision to secure your property, it is essential that your security needs are promptly and efficiently met. A bulldog Security Ltd alarm system can normally be fitted and activated in your home by a qualified engineer within 48 hours of your order.

    Q. Can I take the system with me if I move?

    A. If we have service and guarding cover in the area you're moving to, yes. Bulldog Security Ltd alarm engineers must remove and refit the system and the customer will be charged the installation price only. In reality, the incoming occupant usually wants the alarms and will negotiate a price with our customer.

    Q. What happens if I have an extension built or have new doors or windows fitted?

    A. Our alarm systems are wireless, existing detectors can be moved easily or additional detectors added in order to maintain levels of security throughout your home.

    Q. Can I have an alarm on when I’m home?

    A. Our alarm systems can be set to have certain zones or sensors omitted in order to provide protection from intrusion while you are at home.

    Q. Will my system false alarm?

    A. The vast majority of false alarms are due to poor installation or inferior equipment. As Bulldog security Ltd alarms only use fully trained engineers and install the highest quality equipment our systems have one of the lowest false activation rates available.

    Q. What happens in the event of a power cut?

    A. As Bulldog Security Ltd systems have battery back-up a power cut will not affect the performance of your system.

    Q. What happens if I recommend a friend?

    A. Because our company is grown on recommendations, once an order is placed we will reward you with £75, £100 or £125.

    and now from http://sasgroupsecurity.co.uk/questions.php:-

    Q. How quickly can I have an alarm installed?

    A. SAS Fire & Security Systems recognise that having made the wise decision to secure your home it is essential that your security needs are met promptly and efficiently. Q. Can I take the system with me if I move?
    A. Yes, SAS Fire & Security Systems engineers must remove and refit the system and the customer will be charged installation price only. In reality, the incoming occupant usually wants the alarm and will negotiate a price with our customer. The Lifetime guarantee is transferable to the incoming occupant.

    Q. What happens if I have an extension built or have new doors or windows fitted?

    Q. What happens if there is a power cut?
    A. The SAS Fire & Security Systems control panel is a battery operated system and will operate fully during a power cut. As with all battery operated equiptment it is essential that the batteries are checked regularly.

    Q. How do I change my key holders details?
    A. Its simple. Just call SAS Fire & Security Systems on 0844 875 1922 with your changes. Make sure to tell your key holders what to do in case they receive a call from us. You need to confirm the changes in writing.

I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.
  • It has taken from 20th March until 10th May for my bank to respond about my section 75 claim, they have offered £99 to go with UK MARS. Glad I saw what Sammy had to say about a winding up petition, which is what I suppose trading standards were trying to warn me about last Friday, but couldn't say at that point, only said tread carefully and get a contract before you pay any money. Now my next letter to the bank will be, no thanks, I want a full refund. Not having any luck with getting someone to take the alarm system on either. ADT quoting £1095 to replace the system, plus £52.18 for a URN, police or fire, and £27.99 a month. Every company I call says they have never heard of a Daitem system, or don't deal with them. More waiting now I suppose.

I would try ADT again as I've heard that they can take on the Daitem Alarm System for only the monthly charge. If you explain how it works it is not too dis-similar to their own system. Good luck.

    Hi

My Grandmother has just got the same letter as 'Quarterp' - she paid £9000 to them, about 1 year ago - some on her barcleycard - She is too old to try and sort this out, and I said I would take it on - can anyone help me...not sure where to start.

Thank you, any help would be great.

I would ignore the letter from UK Monitoring & Response Solutions just now and contact Barclaycard and explain that you paid for an Alarm System by your Visa Card and that the company have gone out of business and are no longer trading. Tell them you want to make a claim under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 Section 75.

This should get things moving and they will get in touch with you with their requirements. You should be eligible to claim back the amount you paid on your card.

    I hope this helps

What's interesting here is it seems ADT are trying to pull a fast one when they could be taking on a lot of customers here. Never heard of Daitem, the biggest alarm manufacturer in Europe... C'mon ADT, offer us a good deal instead of being greedy!!!!
Surely they can just contact Daitem for details on their alarms and offer ex SAS customers a monitoring deal?
