DougWeller wrote: »Can you just confirm that you aren't referring to me as a first time poster?
I wasn't told that the police wouldn't respond to sequential alarms (I know that they do) but I know and was probably told that they don't respond to the ordinary 'just ring outside the house' alarm. It seems unlikely although not impossible that anyone would claim the police don't respond to proper sequential alarms reported to a monitoring station. Especially as that is part of Bulldog's offer. Why would you offer a service and then say the police won't respond? Sounds like someone was confused.
Is Bulldog's alarm actually sequential or just a monitored alarm.
They don't seem to be registered with NSI0 -
Yes, sequential. They aren't registered with NSI and I'd be happier if they were, but when I signed up I did my research first and couldn't find an obvious alternative for what I wanted (and I did ask here). Paid by credit card, so I've got that protection. Met with the guard company they use also before I signed up. Service has been excellent (a few glitches, mainly my fault plus rodents in the garage) and they've been happy to come out when asked.0

Your first post, #123, in the SAS thread about alarm systems read as follows:
"Can someone clarify this - if they install virtually immediately, eg the day after you sign the contract, you've lost your cooling off period? Because I'm worried this happened to me this weekend. How can I find out how old a company is? The company is http://www.bulldog-securityltd.co.uk/. I wrote them a cheque but then told them it would bounce as I can't transfer money to that account so they say they will let me pay by credit card. Bought a 5 year contract. The company they use for monitoring seems reliable.Thanks.Doug"
C Crawford then offered his suggestion and you replied in post #125:-
".. installation doesn't affect the cooling off period anyway. But I am worried - it was one of these 'special offers for only 4 people in your postcode'. But I haven't paid yet and will be paying it all by credit card, so that should protect me if they go out of business, etc. Doug "

DACOUCH then pointed out that (this) is a breach of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Business Practices specific rule 6 and you seem to have ignored this, along with the advice for selection of an alarm company (post #90 with the link to http://www.met.police.uk/crimeprevention/alarms.htm) and had already signed up with the first scare-mongering door knocker who turned up at your home.
On the same day, about an hour later, in a separate thread you stated this:-
"I may have done something stupid, signed up for 5 years Friday with
http://www.bulldog-securityltd.co.uk/ for a monitored burglar alarm plus panic button. They installed it Saturday. I may have lost my cooling off period but I gave them a check dated tomorrow and yesterday when I told them I couldn't get the money into the account they agreed to shred it and said I could pay by credit card Wednesday. Presuming that actually happens, I should be protected, but how much should I be paying with a reputable company?"

Perhaps you could assist the rest of us by:- Telling us what you paid for the 5 year contract - this is a money savings site and we are all interested to know. maninthestreet wanted to know.
- Name the monitoring/guard company that you so comprehensively reviewed and evaluated. Presumably this was after you signed on the line for a 24 hour installation as you could not have had time to do this beforehand?
- What the make of the alarm is? Is it wireless? I am sure Charles Crawford would be interested.
I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
I have nothing to do with this company other than as a customer. If you accept that, I might reply to you. Right now all you seem interested in is insulting me from behind a cloak of anonymity. I haven't posted on these forums as much as you but I've been here posting a lot longer than you have.0
-
Thinking more about this, why should I post here any more? It never occurred to me that posting here might subject me to insults and libel. I'm a customer with nothing to do with any firm that sells, makes, etc anything (I'm retired) and there's no excuse for suggesting I'm actually a front for a company - that's libel, plain and simple. Suggesting that I'm stupid or whatever isn't any better. Why would anyone want to participate in a forum where they can be treated like this? I used to recommend Martin's to people. I'll still recommend the newsletter, but probably not the forums.0

I am unsure where you think that I implied you had anything other than a customer relationship with Bulldog Security and certainly did not imply as such. One of my posts #185 clearly identifies Lozzaboom! as as possible stooge, who appeared to join MSE solely to make that comment.
I always recognised you as a long-standing MSE member with more than 1 post. Others reading this thread may have been deceived by your posting #180 where you stated simply "Just to add we are getting excellent service from Bulldog Security" in a response to a thread that had almost died out, not having had contributions for over 3 months apart from fleeced27 who stated that they had just been refunded. At that point, you seemed compelled to add your comment. Frankly, this hardly seemed to assist anyone apart from Bulldog but I desisted from comment as I knew that you were a honerable and long-standing member of MSE.
IMHO you were rash to the point of foolishness to become a customer of, but are not in the pay of, Bulldog Security. In your own words, you stated "I may have done something stupid".
We all act foolishly occasionally and I am happy to correct any misunderstanding in this matter so...
Apologies are duly offered for causing you to think that I accused you of being a stooge for BSLI am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
Apology accepted.
I don't want to talk money (except that I didn't pay anything like the £!0000 for 10 years someone did) but it seemed reasonable (although no one here was able to help me find out what a similar system might cost).
I added the post at 180 because it seemed sensible to report my experience several months down the line - isn't that a good idea?
It is wireless, my preference.0 -
Perhaps answer at least one question? Prices are widely discussed in this thread:-
- shineygems mum paid £4,000! (#12)
- Quarterp parents paid £5,00 for 10 years monitored
- ellies angel £6,000 for 15 years
Who are the monitoring/guard company?
And what is the make/manufacturer of the alarm system?
PS
"it seemed sensible to report my experience several months down the line - isn't that a good idea?" - Frankly no, stating "I AM OK" in a reply to someone (fleeced27) who stated that they had finally been refunded helps no-one and makes you look like a stooge. You probably owe an apology to them...I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 - shineygems mum paid £4,000! (#12)

There we go again. I'm not a stooge and owe no one an apology. This is a waste of my time and I'm tired of being hassled by you.0
