Speeding ticket in Vito van
Comments
-
Speed cameras have been set to target commercial vehicles. I have in my former role as a fleet manager received tickets for: 71mph on a dual carriageway from a fixed camera (3.5t); 53mph in a national speed limit area(3.5t); 44mph on a single carriageway in a 7.5t rentatruck.
I can confirm ALL new 3.5 euro compliant vans come fitted with speed limiter as standard. I've driven several empty, high-powered vans with a strong tailwind downhill and can confirm that NONE will exceed 99mph (GPS reading too). Bloody Eurocrats.0 -
If it's over 3.5 tons GVW then I believe it is 40 on a Single carriageway. I got caught once driving a twin wheel transit!
I think you are incorrect there.
A rigid commercial vehicle up to 7.5t can do 50 on an NSL single carriageway, 60 on an NSL dual carriageway and 70 on the motorway.
A heavy duty transit type van with 4 wheels on the rear axle may well be a 5t van but it can still do the above limits.Obviously a lot of 7.5 tonne vehicles are restricted but there is still some older ones that will hit 75-80mph.
If the >7.5t vehicle is restricted then it cannot use the outer lane of a 3 or more lane motorway, and the restrictions vary between 50 and 60mph.
Rigid goods vehicles above 7.5t are limited to 40mph on NSL SG, 50mph on NSL DC and 60mph on NSL MW.
The information is available online in a variety of driving resources, or you could just spend a couple of quid on the Highway Code, which does actually get updated often!
Some speed cameras are now fitted with sensors to detect the size of the vehicle on whether it would trigger the camera. It is up to you to be aware of your vehicles capacities and speeds.
Good Luck0
