Depends on the size of the car derived van

A lot are over 2 tonnes, most have an option just short of the 2 tonnes as well though. Have to look on the rating plate to be sure.
(But ironically, my MPV can be over 2 tonnes laden)

    Gm all,

Really peed off this morning, had a speeding ticket this morning saying I was doing 60 mph when my van should have been classed at 50 mph!?! Is this right? My van is a short wheel base vito.
Anoying thing is that it is a 60 zone and I remember driving past the van thinking i'm fine at 60.
    Is this right?
    Thanks
    P

    Exactly which model of Vito?

They're all about 2 3/4 tonnnes, and not car derived, so it won't matter.

Not so. The Vito range is huge and weights vary. HMRC consider many of them to be CDVs.

    They're all down as

GVW 2770/2940 on the Merc website

    http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/content/unitedkingdom/mpc/mpc_unitedkingdom_website/en/home_mpc/van/home/new_vans/models/vito_639/vito/tech_data.0004.html

and they're sold as a mini bus style, much the same as the transit was.

    Then again, they're not HMRC.

Had to check that, Anything van over 2 tons. I always thought it the same with rigid goods vehicles and coaches.

Take one rigid goods vehicle limited to 56mph and not allowed in the 3rd lane of a 3 lane motorway. Fit some windows
and seats add 60 children and a few adults. Now you (could) do 70 and use the 3rd lane.

    UTTERLY MENTAL...

Bus/Coaches should have been limited to 56.

I think what the government is getting at by reducing the speed limit, not that many van drivers know or care about speed limits ;)

Van with full metal sides, not converted, is driven by a white van man tithead

Van converted with child seats, windows, driven by responsible, caring family man :rotfl:

These limits have been around for decades.

The low speed limit for smaller vans has not though has it? 3.5ton transit could do 60 on A roads the same
    as cars.

4 /5 years since that changed?

I didnt know about different speed limits for vans

That makes the speed of some of the white vans I see on dual c and motorways incredulous.
