Speeding ticket in Vito van

If you don't know what the Highway Code says, then you can only blame yourself for getting done for speeding if you are caught breaking any imposed limits..
True and I would not blame anyone else, its my own fault if I did it. (Which by the way I have never been done for this offence)
But considering this is an issue where people are getting done for it all the time and they dont even know the law exists surely educating people of the law would be a good idea?
I just feel that goverment suck in general at everything they do sorry so issues like this wind me up alot.0 -

But that really is their own fault, it takes about one minute to read the speed limits on the Highway Code link that I provided.
If they cannot be bothered to do that, they only have themselves to blame.
I suspect that a lot of drivers do know the limits, they choose to ignore them, than act all innocent when caught.0 -
The one that gets me is I know these limits, my dad has always had vans for work (plumber) but I have hired vans on many occasions and not once has the rental company bothered to tell me about the limits.
I know a lot of people who are in rental vans get caught out like this!

No, your right it is our own responsibility, but I am saying if the goverment truely wanted things to be better they would not simpley fine people as they catch them but raise peoples awareness of the law. I think this would actually work better personally, then if you still break the law you deserve the fine its only fair.
It is simpley a money making exersice, otherwise they would do something other than just fine people they catch doing it, informing people of it would be a good idea no? How can you expect people to not break a law when most drivers dont know the law even exists?
The government have already done this. Why would the goverment need to know where you are??? An your against anybody else knowing aswell? Strange so you dont like satnavs? mobile phones?
Sat navs already have the option of warning you that your breaking the locations speed limit so why not build the system into cars better so that the car is restricted to the locations speed limit?
Thin end of the wedge. My satellite navigation system is optional, my choice. If a GPS tracking module is installed in my car, there will be nothing stopping government from tracking every move my car makes. As for legal to drive at 250 mph erm i never actually said that, I said that its legal to have a car that can do that speed.
It is legal to own a gun and it is possible to shoot someone with it, but also illegal to do so.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Have they? When 1970?
Why would goverment need to track it? SAT nav has a built in system where it can warn you your breaking the limit so why not auto limit the car at that limit?
Very true but if everybody was going round shooting people they would ban guns, would they not? Oh thats right they already sort of have its only legal to use guns in certain areas and there are very strict rules in place with licences ect.
I am not saying people should get away with speeding and I am not saying they should get away with it if they dont know the law exists, simpley sayng the current system obviously does not work and they should look at informing people about stuff better if they truely want things to get better.
Instead of just going down the route of fining people to make money.
Look at fixed camras, now it was said these were not a money making sceme, but put in place for saftey, but now they are turning them off as they dont make money anymore thanks to satnavs with built in camra warnings. Now they are all being turned off as they cos to much to keep running, but its all about saftey dont forget.0 -

True I do actually agree with you to an extent if you break the law you have nobody to blame but yourself really end of the day.
But if the goverment ruely wanted people to stick to the laws they would make the laws a little more clear.
I did not know about the law when i passed my test as they were teaching me to drive a car, unfortunatly the same lisence also covers me for vans now I would assume if there was anything different I would have been told at some point.
Not sure if it works different now, been a while since I done my test, but I was taught how to drive a car there is your lisence bye. Nobody said but if you want to drive a van you have to read the highway code, infact good idea to read it now and then anyway to keep up with any changes and to keep important info freash in your mind.
Surely a simple advert along the lines of saying what van driving speed limits are saying did you know, is it time your read through the highway code again?
Surely this would help more?0 -

Twaddle. What a perfect person you must be going round with the rules for everything in your hand!
Car/Van rental firms are often the same place. People often won't realise the rules are different and it wouldn't cross their mind to have to check because their license allows them to drive one.
While I understand what you are saying I feel the companies themselves could take 30 seconds to ask the question! Better service.
If the person is a van driver for a living then I would totally agree with you.

Vans that can travel at the same speed as cars
There is a small group of vans that can travel at up to the same national speed limits as cars. These are car-derived vans that are goods vehicles developed from a passenger vehicle and have a MAM of no more than 2,000 kg.
Examples of car-derived vans are vehicles built by the manufacturer and based on the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Astra, Fiat Punto, Peugeot 207 and Renault Clio.
The Direct.gov website tells it how it is.....0 -

That is a question for the libertists, don't you think? I have no idea why they would want to track me, it doesn't make sense to me that they would want to at all, but it doesn't mean that they won't.Very true but if everybody was going round shooting people they would ban guns, would they not? Oh thats right they already sort of have its only legal to use guns in certain areas and there are very strict rules in place with licences ect.
As with cars.I am not saying people should get away with speeding and I am not saying they should get away with it if they dont know the law exists, simpley sayng the current system obviously does not work and they should look at informing people about stuff better if they truely want things to get better.
Sorry, but that is exactly what it looks like you are doing. You are implying taht drivers should be allowed to get away with being ignorant of the law.Instead of just going down the route of fining people to make money.
How do you think speeding drivers should be punished.Look at fixed camras, now it was said these were not a money making sceme, but put in place for saftey, but now they are turning them off as they dont make money anymore thanks to satnavs with built in camra warnings. Now they are all being turned off as they cos to much to keep running, but its all about saftey dont forget.
We campaigned for eighteen months to have on installed on the approach road to our village. Before, there was at least two collisions a week, now that is down to about six a year. If they are now being dispensed with, it means that they have done theor jobs, don't you think? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
