MSE News: O2 to hike broadband prices
Comments

Does anyone know if the option to quit due to a price increase extends to the fact that I have both broadband AND phone with O2? I wanted to quit due to rubbish service from O2 BB but being in contract with the landline till July has forced me to stay as with out BB I am apparently breaking my LL contract!!
I can't get a sensible answer from O2...
They say you can leave both, o2 website states:
Your options:- 1. The new prices will take effect from your first bill date after 31 March 2011.
- 2. We do have some newer home broadband packages, designed around the way you use the internet. Find out more, call 0800 130 0005.
If you haven't already, you may also be able to take advantage of our home phone line rental at £7.50 at month. - 3. We believe we offer a fantastic value for money broadband and home phone service. However you can leave without penalty if you tell us within 30 days of receiving your price change notification letter or email. Call 0800 230 0202 and choose option 1 (Home Broadband), 5 (Leaving O2), then 2 (Leaving O2). If you don’t contact us before 31st March 2011 then the new prices will take effect from your first bill date after that.

As you know you can cancel your BB because of the increase, now you cannot have O2 phone without having the BB so it goes without saying the phone would have to be cancelled too.0 -
If does not effect ftp, general website downloads, iplayer (YouTube etc), usenet (newgroups) or anything else ... just p2p.
I'd double check the forums again as people have had problems with Megaupload, Rapidshare and usenet. Anything that is classed as file sharing is their definition of p2p, not just torrents etc. Now if you don't use any of those services then the deal may be good for you.

o2 have come back to me and said I can't get out of my contract because my increase is less than 10%. This is true, but I want to get out because my wireless is crap, I can't even get a signal in my office upstairs from the main socket and am working from my living room via ethernet0

They can only increase by rate of inflation or government action - 10% is more than that.
It is also against what is quoted on their own website - phone them back and quote it.

The price increases on "new" packages are far less than on a legacy packages - they are only increasing them by pence per month.
It is only those on the older legacy packages that are able to leave because of the price increase i.e. they are going up by £££s per month.
JoBennie - how much do you pay for the BB at the moment and what is it going to go to?0 -
I was happily with O2, But now I have moved to BT.... Much cheaper now in comparison0

Still having problems, they are refusing to allow me to quit my service. They are saying I'm committed to pay the 12 months until 17 October 2011. They are saying that option 3 doesn't relate to me, only to older accounts and tarriffs and that I cannot close my account without paying the getout fee. Basically, they are refusing to allow me to close the account0

Called O2 and requested MAC code. I was immediately offerred 6 months free on the same package with a new 1 year contract. Needless to say I took it. I am happy with O2 network and so happy to stay with them. I am also a moneysaving nerd and have saved over 50 pounds by talking to O2 on a free number for 15 minutes (it was peak time!).:j0
