MSE News: O2 to hike broadband prices

If someone is in the early, "tied in" period of a contract then as has been stated, they have the right to leave. However, I don't believe that this is sufficient. If an agreement has been struck to provide a service for a tie-in period (normally a year - 18 months), then there is no way the customer can attempt to negotiate a price reduction until that tie-in period is over. If you try it, they will just laugh at you (well maybe not literally). So, IMO, the reverse should apply. They do this in the hope that many of their tied-in customers will stick around simply because they can't be bothered to look around.
I believe that the tie-in period should be binding on both parties at the rate the deal was struck at the beginning.0 -
I was on the old £7:50 per month tariff. I only started this tariff back end of august & now I get an email advising me that it's going up to £9:50.
Telephoned O2 & after a long debate with a customer advisor, I was put through to their retentions team.
They said I could either stay as I am and tolerate the increase, or they would switch me over to their £12:50 package free for the first 6 months. Over all, it works out slightly cheaper than the £7:50 I'm currently paying.
I know people with Sky broadband & none of them have a particularly good word to say about it including the customer service. I have looked about and to be honest, even though I begrudge it, I'm better staying with O2.0 -

And put up with the horrendous traffic shaping? No thanks.0 -

Still don't really understand it..but looks like I'm better off staying as I am for the time being.
Unless, the package I'm currently on is affected by this traffic shaping.0 -

If you want slower peak speeds and download caps then move to the new packages.
Go to this link and scroll down to Traffic Mangement - all will be revealed.

None of the old legacy packages are subject to the new traffic management rules - that's why they are increasing the costs and making deals if you move to the new packages.0 -
I'm on O2 Home Broadband Premium. Signed up in August. Now paying £10.21 per month (I'm an o2 mobile customer). So how much will my package be going up to and are there going to be changes to dl limits?0

£13pm I believe and no change to either speed or download limits.
