MSE News: O2 to hike broadband prices

Currently £12.33 raising to £14.50
Just called saying Be Unlimited (sister company) can do same service (Unlimited 8meg) for £10.50. They instantly reduced it to £9.50/mth inc. VAT.0 -
I rang to ask for MAC, and was offered a £2.50 per month discount for a year, so back down to £7.00 per month instead of the new £9.50.
Told a friend of mine who was on same package, he rang, and after 5 mins was also on the £7 deal.0 -
I called O2 & said I was switching to Sky after I was told my £7.50 pm bill would jusp to £9.50. They offered me a £2.50 discount per month!!!! So now I'll be paying LESS than I was before. Genius.
Also did the same with BT - I'm currently signed up for 1 year free evening & weekend calls (until May) but called up to ask when I could end the contract, and they've offered me a £3 discount straight away if I sign up for another 12 months. Absolutely the cheapest deal going for my requirements.
£16.35 pm for line rental, evening & weekend calls (inc 0870), and unlimited 8MB broadband (fastest my line can get).
Beware of switching to new O2 deals - there is now a fair usage policy of 100GB pm, may be plenty for most but not necessarily for gamers/ downloaders.

I was paying £12.77 for the original unlimited deal. Was to increase to £14.50 so enquired about leaving and was offered £9.50 for 12 months. I hear so many criticisms of other ISPs so price is not the main thing for me. Value for money and lack of hassle is more important.0

My O2 is going up to £9.50 pm. Annoying yes but I have been with O2 for about 3 years now and I am more than happy with them. In the 3 years I think I've had one outage that was fixed with a quick router switch on and off. Before O2 I was with PlusNet, utter rubbish! PlusNet started off great but then, just before I went to O2 BT bought them out. At that point the service went downhill and even went so far as to be under the soil :-) I had outages all the time, caps and the price kept going up all the time. With O2 I have no download limit (fair usage policy but it has never been implemented despite hours and hours of my kids playing online games). Therefore, I shall take the price rise on the chin and just be happy with a very good service. Of course, if this changes I'll be off like a shot.

Before accepting reductions in the monthly fee when extending your contract 12 months have a read through this thread and see they are offering much better deals if you refuse the £2.50 etc off per month.

6 months free is equivalent to a 50% reduction on the monthly fee!0 -
I'm on the (non-02) all-rounder package which I switched to in January. My increase is 50p per month which I can manage and I never go over the FUP. Plus 02 customer service has always been good so I'm staying til my contract ends. The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420

I got a letter from O2 saying they were increasing my monthly payment by 20%.
i telephoned them told them I was leaving and guess what I got them to give me 3 months free at new prices for a new 12 month contract which means over the year I am paying less a month than previously.
Frankly their service is pretty good, they provide 24 hour UK call centres and overall quite reliable but I would have moved but thankfully I do not need to go through that hassle.
My moto- you dont ask you dont get !!0 -
Hello Im with the worst internet providers ever....and would love the opportunity to leave...does the same apply.
if anyone knows that would be really helpful
thanks x0 -
I too used to be on Standard (£7.50 less £2.50 credit). When I was told it was going up to £9.50 less £2.50 credit I called to re-negotiate my contract I was offered 6 months free and then £9.50 thereafter. That works out less than I was paying before (£57 as opposed to £60) for a 12 month contract.
I strongly recommend that others ask to re-negotiate their contract rather than investigate other ISPs. I have been with O2 since they started to supply broadband and I am very pleased with their service - and prices!0
