Yes, lots of people have claimed from closed accounts. It makes virtually no difference. See the thread below for success stories:

  • Hi my wife has just successfully claimed £2650 from The Halifax so i should be a bit of a Pro so to speak, but i got into serious trouble with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and had charges of around £3000 applied to my account also a Charge was put on my house, but we later settled by a protected loan The Credit Card account was closed,is it possible to claim these charges.
  • Hi All

I dont have details of my credit cards account numbers as I got rid of them can I find out what they were ...where and how

    Cheers

    Mac
  • As long as you can remember the card issuer(s), the approximate dates of the account(s) and your address at the time, you should be alright.

If you can’t remember the card issuer(s)……….tough luck.
  • Merry Christmas and/or season's greetings one and all

I have been considering going after my exorbitant old charges for a while now, but the charges apply to an account that was closed a couple of years back and, not being as organised as I perhaps ought to be, I don't have the details.

I fear that sending a letter without knowing my old bank details, or knowing how much I intend to claim, will be next to useless.

The situation is possibly fairly critical however. I had a Co-Op Smile account and had a GBP500 over draft. I went travelling and on my return found that it had, with charges and compound interest, become nearer GBP900.

Due to my abhorrent organisational skills I failed to set-up a mechanism to pay this off automatically.

Next step, open a letter telling me I have had the OD called in and I owe GBP900 to a debt factoring company.

I have now payed the money back in full after a payment plan, and have a damaged credit rating for having a default.

I'll bet it's a dead-end but if I can chase back the exorbitant GBP400 I wonder if I may in turn repair my credit rating.

    Any thoughts greatly received.

Yes you can claim on closed accounts. If you don't remember your account number etc write to them giving your name, address and date of birth to help them locate your account.

Here I am busy doing my personal account charges letter. and i got thinking? (MustThat time of year! )

Some years ago I was partner in a business just 2 partners including my self.

We sold the business and closed the account.

1 Would the application have to be in both names? (I have not seen the other guy for a few years, i don't even know where he lives!))

2 How would they pay out for a Joint business account?

    cheers JIM
