I was with barclays for 18 years i got into trouble because of them putting charges on my current and student accounts. My student account got so bad they wanted to close it, but my current was in full use and was in credit. Barclays then closed both accounts, i was unfairly charge a number of times while at uni and now want to know if i can claim these charges back?
The only thing is my accounts are now closed and i have only now found out about claiming the charges back. Please could someone tell me if i can claim evan though my account are already closed.

Well, understanding that you can claim on closed accounts is one thing... but actually getting info from the bank / credit card may be more difficult.
I have just received a letter from Barclaycard, in response to my data protection request. It stated this:
"Further to your reuest for personal data held by Barclaycard, we do not have any information relating to the card number you have supplied.
If the account has been closed it is possible that the information has been deleted from our systems and therefore, will not be available
If you have any more information that you can supply to help us locate your account please send this to the address supplied at the top of this letter"
The account was settled in full and closed in June/July 2004. I even included a photocopy of my final statement just as extra information (as I had moved house since then).
The letter I sent them, was the template first letter from this site.
So what do I do now? I thought banks / credit cards legally had to keep records for the 6 years... even on closed accounts. If they won't give me the information, or claim not to have any, what should I go?
Please help!!!

Contact the Information Commisioner. They can bring this up with your bank and find out what is going on. It doesn't sound right what you've been told by the bank. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Hi,
I've been searching this forum for some information but as yet have drawn a blank.
I am currently in the process of waiting for my bank to pay up and was talking to a friend about it.
She reckons she was charged over a grand by her old bank during the last 6 years (Barclays) but left them 18 months ago over a dispute and now banks elsewhere. She has no statements from Barclays, they were 'filed' in a fit of rage, and has no other accounts with them, even her children's accounts were switched.
Would she still be able to get copies of her old statements from Barclays and is it possible for her to make a claim?
Has anyone managed to reclaim charges for an account that no longer exists?
Any help would be gratefully received.0 -
Hi
What a fab place this is!!!
I have just sent the first letter to HSBC claiming £409 and requested a breakdown of charges from the Yorkshire Bank - I can't wait to see what happens.
As part of the new year, I've decided to tidy up credit cards etc and close some accounts down as they had a zero balance. Can I claim any charges I have incurred on these accounts, or do they have to be active?
Thanks for the help in advance
Ps I hope I've put this in the correct place!

Hi folks
I'm just about to post off my initial letter (and £10 cheque) to my bank asking for a break down of my charges over the last six years.
What I want to know is does having the right to ask for these charges apply only active accounts or could I write to a Credit Card Company (who I know made charges) that I recently closed the account with?
Thanks
:huh:0
