Afaik, you are requesting personal data, so it would be £10 for all accounts under your name/joint names and £10 for any account in your husband's name.

  • Closed my account with First Direct about 9 months ago. I have just had my £10 cheque returned by First Direct saying that we supply statements for free. Then a courier delivered a big wad of statements.

Looking at the charges there are several for £34 Charge and also £100 Excess Overdraft Fee. Can I claim on both these types of charges of do I have to ignore some of the fees.

Any help would be gratefully accepted

  • HI,

Sorry if this has already been asked or answered (there are soo many pages to read!) I am just about to file against Natwest for my 2 accounts & 1 credit card. I actually closed down all my accounts with Natwest in 2004, so guess I can only claim from 1999 onwards. Hopefully I will be getting £100s back. I have just done the first letter asking about bank charges, can I use the same letter for my credit card aswell & since I am claiming against 3 accounts will £10 cover all of them or will I need £30 to send in total.

Can you also make a claim if Natwest incresed your overdraft without asking your consent, & you thought you would take all the money out coz they have offered it you?

    Please help :-)
  • Can I Claim My Charges Back If The Bank Has Already Closed My Account Down. Due To Very Serious Financal Difficultys Last Year Hsbc Closed My Account Even Though I Was Still £2000 Overdrawn . They Are Currently Taking Me To Court As I Havent Managed To Pay It All Back Yet. Does Anyone Know If I Could Claim Back My Charges As I Have Calculated Them To Be Approx £1300.
    Thanks For Any Advise.

I'm not entirely sure what the rules are about the accoun being closed, but I would expect it to be irrelevant. If they've ripped you off, it doesn't matter that they've also closed your account - you should certainly try and recoup some of the costs.

I'd say whatever the situation it's worth writing a letter. It'll only cost you a stamp so you've nothing to lose.
  • You can claim back on a closed account. Its likely if you succeed this money would go towards repaying your overdraft.
