Does anyone know if you can still reclaim your bank charges back even if your account has ben closed by the bank? This was only closed due to excessive charges that spiraled out of control?? Would be grateful if someone could answer this. Thanks0

Thanks for the info on claiming for closed accounts. Just wondered though if the bank would charge you for providing information as your not technically a customer of theirs any longer?? Any comments??0

Hi maurisa,
I think they'd charge regardless if you're still a customer or not, it's just a guess going off that banks charge for anything to do with things covered under data protection. I don't think it would be much and if they pay out long term it's got to be worth a few quid initially.

Flamingmad, i think you may save some time if you go in branch to find out old account number. They should have you on their system.0

Hi MMM - should be six years from the day you request the statements. In UK law you only have six years from date of debit to chase the money. Works the same way if you owe money too, if they haven't requested payment in six years you are home free - errr, I think.
You will find all this info in the main article for claiming back your bank charges.
Good luck!!

l had an account with the halifax. l never closed it but stopped using it. lve been trying to trace it because l had it before the Halifax demutualised and l reckon lm due a share of what was paid out to holders. Do you think l am still in with a shout. l know its of topic.0 -
I recently asked for a comprehensive list of 6 years worth of charges etc etc from Halifax. To there credit they were swift in there response and my statements arrived. I followed up with the second letter saying i was claiming xyz as a result of unlawful charges. However becuase my account had been put in the hands of there collection agency and i was under a DMP they are saying that i have no rights to a refund. 2 questions

Am in the same position as you, did you find out whether you could still claim?
Thanks!0
