I need some advice, have been divorced an living on my own for over 4 years, when we sold the marital home we were in bad debt, so paid off everything some companies we made offers of an amount less than the amount owed to settle. We had accounts with TSB current account and loan, Barclaycard, Yorkshire Bank, I Group, GE Capital store cards. I need to be able to find some of the account numbers, so can anyone advise me how to do this, and also do i risk them coming back to me saying we had paid them a reduced amount in the first place therefore we are not in a position to reclaim charges, but that they could in fact ask us for the full amount.
I know it sounds complicated, but we had such a lot of debt, and thankfully no more, and the amount we got stung for was awful so if i could get any back it would be amazing if anyone can advise please.:

Hi,
I had an account with Simply Be when i was a lot younger and foolish! I managed to get to a point where i couldnt pay it so i earned 3 late charges of £15 before sending me to a debt collection agency(Now fully paid off)
Anyways, I sent an email to Simply Be requesting charges of £115 plus interest taking it to £150. I received a letter dated 27th March basically saying that it is my fault i incurred those charges because i failed to pay? (Fair point but i only failed to pay last 3 payments, was paying regularly before that (and sometimes late ie the other charges!)
They say a lot about the OFT guideline figure of £12 and
"They recognize the OFT has power to seek court orders in relation to unfair terms, the OFT statement does recognise that only a court can decide whether a term is fair or not"
"We continue to be of the view that the charges that we made in your case are justifiable, and not a penalty
In the circumstances we are not prepared to make a full refund of charges. As the OFT guidelines came in to place from May 2006 we are, however, prepared to refund charges made over the sum of £12 from that date"
(Knowing full well the account has been closed since 2003 and so has not incurred any charges! GRRRR
Please does anyone know where i stand with this as im a bit wary of making a claim after reading their letter?
Any reassurances out there...please??
Any info much appreciated

Sorry to change the subject.
Is it ok to ask for your statements from a bank even though the account has been closed for 3 years.
If I'd known Abbey were so horrible to their customers I wouldn't have chosen them over the Natwest :-(
I have asked for my Statements from the abbey and they have sent them all including the pages stating the charges :-)0 -
Hi just wondered if anyone as claimed late payment penalties back from A & L Visa although the charge on the statement just says interest charged?0

Yes its fine to claim on a closed account. Write the letter asking for your details back to April 2001 if you are going back to 6 years. If you dont have your sort code and account number give them your full name and full address including postcode and date of birth and dates of account opened/closed if you know them.

Hi, I posted this question before, but couldn`t find the post as there was so many.
I had a joint bank account with the Abbey 2yrs ago. It was a joint account with my then husband. When we seperated, the account became overdrawn and charges were made every month by Abbey £20 a month for not being able to cover direct debits etc...
The account was cleared eventually and closed.
Can i make a claim against Abbey for all of the charges they made and can i make a claim with out my ex husband being involved, Will they require his input.
I would appreciate any advice on this matter.

I recently recieved a settlement from my bank for £914 the full amount that I was owed. I was also told my bank account would be closed on 11th April 2007. Since then I have had a few more charges added to my account and it is now overdrawn by more than £100. The total of these new charges is greater than that of the unauthorised overdraft. I have been told by the bank that if I do not arrange repayment they will pass it onto a credit agency, which may affect my credit rating. I consider that I do not owe this money & my account will be closed soon, so there is nothing to claim back, however. How can I deal with this without affecting my credit rating? Should; I claim back the charges? pay it off and then reclaim the charges? Or should I leave it until they take the matter up and then defend myself stating that I believe the charges were unlawful and that I therefore owe nothing?
Thank you
Regards
