Can anyone tell me if you have closed the account that you had the charges on, are you able to claim back the money?

I have posted the answer in the post above yours!

Yes, you can claim from closed accounts.
  • When I was a first year student I was very unorganised and didnt keep track of any account numbers addresses etc. I got into very bad debt in this first year somewhere in the region of 5k and havw finally finished paying it back. Noe I think is the time to start claiming my charges back. I was at uni between sept 2000 and dec 2001 so I need to act quick. My account was closed slightly after this time. I can remember my first year address but not my second which is what I feel will be recorded at the bank. I have tried streetmap but no luck. Without any of these details I feel I'll be wasting precious time in waiting for the bank to reply. Anyone any ideas on what I can do?

    Hi

I signed up for a free trial on Experians site to have a look at my credit history. It listed all the addresses I have been at previously (maybe worth a look for you).

Secondly I have got account details from both Smile and Barclays by phoning them up and answering the usual questions to identify myself - mothers maiden name,my birthday etc. I thought this was a long shot at the time but it worked a treat and saved me a load of time!

    Good Luck!
  • Did you get an answer to this as yet as i am also paying back CC to a DCA
  • Hi
Can anyone tell me if I can claim on an old account I had until 2004. If I can find any details of the account number that is!!!

    Jojo
  • If you can't find account number details, send your name and any pertinant addresses along with your date of birth in the initial letter and they should be able to find your account.
  • I hope I am correct in thinking that this also applies to Business Accounts as I am about to trawl through lots and lots and lots of paperwork!
  • Hi

A quick question. Does anyone know if the re-claiming bank charges tactic which is published on this site works with accounts that have been closed? In theory it should as even though the contract has ended it still existed and overcharging occurred.

    Anybody have any experience here?

    Thanks

Also i had a loan from halifax in 2001 would i be able to claim for the charges on that?

thanks in advance for all your help. i love this, all the people claiming the charges back...
If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.
  • hi there,

you need to contact the individual organisations, and say you wish to send them an access request under the data protection act 1998, don't tell them you are going to claim charges! just say you are doing a "self audit". I have had to chase x4 institutions for closed account details, 2 of them denied me ever being a customer for x2 mortgages i once had! thankfully my old solicitor helped me out!

good luck! you will need patience and charm...
