One letter (and one £10 fee) with all the account numbers you hold with that bank is suffice.

You can claim for any accounts you've held in the last six years whether the accounts are open or closed now.

    Hi Guys

Ive currently got an account with HSBC, and I've used Martins Very useful 1st stage template letter to send to them to reclaim charges. Nothing back yet but that was only a week ago.

My problem comes here. In the last 6 years Ive had bank accounts with Barclays, Alliance and Leicester and also a Credit card with A & L.

Can I still claim charges I had from these even though I no long have them?

Also, if I can whats the best way to do this? I dont have any of the old account numbers or statements. Should I send them the letter I sent HSBC (except ive no account number), or Ive heard something about a moneyclaim.gov website? Any advice on dealing with this anyone?!?!
    Thanks!!! Si

  • HSBC closed my bank account down when i went on maternity leave as i had trouble paying back my overdraft. Can i still make a claim about my charges etc over the last 6 years even though they have closed my account down???

    Please can someone help??
  • I think I saw this question asked when I searched, just have a search and see what pops up.
  • If you no longer have the account number etc of your closed accounts, send off the initial letter asking for all info held on you and give your name, date of birth and any relevant addresses pertinant to the time you had your account with the bank.

  • hi all

im wondering if i can claim back bank charges that are about 5 years old. I dont have any of the paperwork that they sent me each time i got charged. It was the clydesdale bank. I closed the account due to having a really hard time with them and charges probably totalling £600-£800.

Do i just send off one of the template letters and hope for the best. Im sure I will be on their system somewhere as an ex-client.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Send off the first letter asking for the information held on you and give your name and any relevant addresses along with your date of birth and they should be able to find your account.
  • thankyou.

  • Hi guys,

So you can claim back your charges even on closed accounts but what if the bank sold those accounts to a debt collection agency, can you still follow the same process?

I had (have) a Barclays student account £2500 and credit card £900 (most of which is charges) and both debts have been sold to a collection agency. I asked the agency dealing with the credit card for a break down of interest and charges incurred before I even stumbled accross this process, just for my own information. The agency said they would get me the info within 21days although it could take up to 8 weeks, that was in August! Can I take any legal action because they haven't kept their word? Should I just contact Barclays directly about the charges or do I have to go through the agency? If I go through the agency do I need to make any amendments to to the letter templates?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
