I had an account with Barclays and they have recently closed it as I am on a DMP.
They actually closed the account without my knowledge, don't ask.
Obviously the question is in the title, can I claim back the charges that were placed on the account while it was still open or will they kick up!!!!, to my calculations it amounts to about £3000!!!!!!!
Me and my hubby went thru a huge bad patch when we had our first child 5 yrs ago and everything got paid for by cheques that of course bounced. I know now that I shouldn't have done it, and this is why I am trying my best to clear my debts, as I accrued them in the first palce!! This is why there are so many charges as we were never able to keep up with the account.

Yes, you can claim back any charges for the last 6 years in England and Wales, 5 years in Scotland even on a closed account. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Yes of you can. But once the DMP get wind I don't think it will be yours. Also did you leave the bank in a minus position. If it was due to charges you might get to keep them if not the bank may keep what they think is theirs and let you have the rest if any.0

word of warning about barclays, they drag their feet and makeyou take it the distance, but they settle the day before the case is due to be heard in court. If I warn you now, you can save court fees, allocation questionaire fees and get all the paperwork done with loads of time.Debt £5600 all 0%0

Hi,
I spent the whole of uni being charged left right and centre by Lloyds and got so fed up that I closed my account with them - that was a few years ago though now...will I still be able to claim my money back or is it too late?0 -
If the charges were within the last 6 years then yes!0

Amazing - better dig out my old bank details then - I'm assuming they will have all my charges recorded? Dont think they will be too pleased after years of a closed account me coming back to get my charges...looking forward to this immensley!!
