  • I have an old HSBC account. I have gone through all my charges from the last 6 years and i've paid out over £2000. The problem is this accont was closed nearly 2 years ago!!!! Will this affect the claim?
  • No go for it..hundreds have..good luck
  • Hi Guys, Totally new to this kind of thing. Could anyone tell me, My wife had a bank account with Royal bank of scotland she used to accrue massive charges. we paid it off and closed the account about 1-2 years ago. Could we ask for the last 6 years statements and claim the charges back?
Or is it too late because the account is closed?

    Cheers
  • No, its not too late, if you no longer have the account number give your name, relevant addresses at the time the account was open and your date of birth and the bank should be able to trace the account.

  • I was charged by my bank five years ago for going £2 overdrawn I think I was charged around £80. I closed the account as I opened another account to go to university with.

Can I still get that statement to prove this to start reclaiming it back? Even though the account was closed 5 years ago
  • Hi i know you can claim back on closed accounts but mine was a joint account. I have since split from the person i had the account with my name was taken off the account but it was in debt (ex cleared the account past the overdraft to cause problems) i don't know if he still has this account, or if he closed it. would i be able to claim back the charges occured while i was on the account? or would it have to be a joint claim?

    thanks:confused:
  • Hiya, i see a lot of the same question being asked and mine is similar but not as simple as the account was just closed.

The natwest tried to charge me £470 but I got the financial ombudsman involved and the account was closed with the £470 forgotten about/wiped.

Only thing im wondering is if I can claim back the substantial other charges i managed not to get overdrawn with in the years in the run up to this one big sum?

I think its a fair bit but Im not sure if its different circumstances if the ombudsman had been involved? They didnt look at the full account history, just the overdrawn balance at the time.

    Any clues? Thanks!

You can claim back up to 6 years. As you have already used the FO and they will take on bank charges reclaims you might be as well to ask them.
  • I was banking with the Halifax until 2.5 years ago, i left them because they were charging me a massive sum of charges each month (over £100) because I was going overdrawn by small amounts which they then charged additional charges for telling me I was overdrawn.

I had an overdraft of £500 which was not quite enough at the time and I kept asking for an increase to £750 which they continually refused.

I still have my old account number, am I able to claim back my charges as described in this website.

    Many thanks for any replies.

As a post script, I cancelled my pension, my insurance, my bank account and changed my mortgage all that were with the Halifax!!!
