  • Send them as much information on the account you have, plus your name, relevant address and date of birth and they should be able to trace your account.
  • Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to claim back the charges from a Duet /Sears card?
I know of a friend who got the card over five years ago to shop at RICHARDS, but about a year later the shop shut. It was ideal for her just to go to the shop and pay when she got paid (as she was paid in cash as she did not earn enough to pay tax). Since the shop shut she either does not receive the request for payment , or by the time she remembers its is either too late or by teh time the payment clears it is too late, so she has been charged the £20 late payment charge almost every month!..........She knows she has to pay it but it has almost doubled since the shop closed...(which was not here fault!) She knows she is not good when it comes to paying things on time, but as she initially set out to pay every week in the shop, she feels as if they have changed the contract.
Does any one know if she can claim some or all of these charges back?

You can't claim back the interest only late payment charges.

She can claim back late payment charges. Read Martin's article and follow the steps as for banks.

On 9 Jan I sent a letter to GE Money requesting the list of any default charges at my Debenhams store card account together with a £10 cheque. According to the statement I received on the 19th, this money was put into my card account on 11 Jan and I was charged for the service on the 16th but I have received no statements yet!

I called them today and I spoke with someone who could not answer to me why I had not received the statements yet, but said that the charge is 50p per statement. I insisted that the maximum charge is £10 for the statements and then he said that they could not send me any statements before January 2005 because 'due to a technical error' they do not have any information. I insisted saying that then I might have to refer this to the Information Commisioner and then he passed my phone call to his supervisor who said that they have been having 'problems with their archiving system' so they might not be able to provide me with all the statements but he will try to send me as many as possible from the date when I opened my account (April 2003) until today.

My question is, what do I do in this case? If I am not sent the complete list of charges, how do I proceed? Thanks
  • I've given them enough info on me to start a find. Here's hoping they come good. The 40 day clock is ticking and my bank account is thirsty for their input :rotfl:

  • Can you get charges paid back from banks even if you have closed the account with them. Reason is I had a Lloyds TSB account that I closed a couple of years ago for excessive charges for minor offences. I in the end got sick of them and closed the account about 2 years ago. Am I still able to claim these charges back for the 4 years I banked with them in the 6 year time frame???
