I have an old bank account with Natwest which had lots of charges. I got the account sorted, paid of all debts and then moved to a new bank. Since having this account, I have also moved addresses.
I sent all the details to Natwest with Martin's standard letter giving account numbers and my old address. Natwest returned my £10 cheque to my current bank with a compliment's slip saying 'Unable to trace customer'.
Any advice please? Have I done something wrong or is this Natwest's first roll of the dice to avoid paying the charges.0 -

Have just received my statements back but not sure exactly what I can and can't claim back - people just keep saying penalty charges!
I understand it is Late payments, also going over limit, what else is there?
Thanks in advance

I closed my account at Coutts (never my choice of bank, but one I married into) because they kept charging me quarterly charges of between £63-£102 for being 'overdrawn' when I had less than £5,000 in my current account. I have never had £0 in my account, ever with Coutts.
I wrote to them in 2005 enquiring about these charges and they wrote back explaining that in accordance with their Terms and Conditions, an account with under £5,000 was considered 'overdrawn'. I closed my account in May 2006 and moved to RBS. I have tallied up £681 in charges from 2002 - do you think I have a case or can they ignore me because I no longer bank with them?0 -

I got a letter from Smile telling me they could not find my account number. How long are banks supposed to keep records?0

Hi...I'm having exactly the same problem with Egg. I've looked through the forum and unable to find a reply to your post. If you have further info on this please share it with me. I'm unsure if we can only claim the £4 differential (as £12 is now the standard charge) OR if we can claim for the full amount. This is so confusing! Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated...(very poor student) Thx JP0
