  • Yes you can claim on an old account for six years back from now.
  • I'm thinking of reclaiming charges on accounts that have already been closed? Can I do this? Has anyone had any success?

my OH and I are currently banking with HSBC. We have already opened parachute accounts with Citibank. We both have sole accounts with HSBC, and up until a couple of weeks ago had a joint account, that had gone £3K overdrawn, mostly due to ongoing charges, which I then cleared, and then HSBC closed the account without informing me. We also have a managed loan with HSBC. If I claim charges back from HSBC, what will happen to the managed loan, as it would be too much to pay off if they demanded?

  • Have a read of the HSBC thread as they are discussing these managed loans in there.
  • Can I do the same thing with credit card charges as you can do with bank charges. Can you also claim back the charges even though they have now been dropped to £12.00 instead of £25.00. It still mounts up even though it is only £12.00!!!
  • You can make your claim for the full amount, the cc company will come bank and say they are entitled to charge £12 but you have to carry on and say you want the full amount refunded. Use the same letters in Martin's article and just adjust the wording to say you are reclaiming late payment fees.
  • Thanks for that - can i claim for overlimit fees as well.
  • I guess you can, I didn't realise there was a charge for that!
  • Hi, I can't seem to find my old account number to be able to claim back bank charges. Is there any way of sending the first letter to the bank to request bank statements without knowing the account number? This account has been closed for a couple of years now.
    Thanks.
