    Hi everyone,
I'm wanting to start claiming back my charges.
With my bank accounts I have the account numbers, so I can go ahead.
With the credit cards I've had in the past, though, I don't have the account numbers. It seems when I closed the accounts I have thrown away all the paper work.
Does anyone know if I need the credit card account numbers to be able to claim back my charges, or would they be able to retreive my infornation just from my address etc?
If I do need the numbers, does anyone know how I go about getting them?

Also, have you sent the first letter to every account and credit card that you've ever had in the last 6 years?

    Thanks
  • Send you name, relevant addresses and your date of birth to the companies concerned with a £10 cheque and they should be able to trace your accounts.

You first send a Data Protection request for your charges including your account information.

When you then have a list of charges, you can write the first letter requesting repayment.

Please read the article, all these steps are covered:

I had meant , do I need to send a letter first to request my account num bers or just send the first letter without my account numbers, but with my DOB etc?
  • I would just send the first letter with all my details, but maybe that's just me! Have you tried phoning them to get your account numbers etc?

No, I hadn't thought of that.
I could just send the first letter with my details in the space for the account number. I'm sure they'll be able to figure it out from there.
