I had a account with the Halifax (closed in 2005) which was closed because of the charges they kept charging me an unauthorised O/D fee (£30 fee i think)and refused DD charges (they kept taking the charges and leaving no money for my DD that needed to be paid on my account) This continued until I was a about £350 o/d and the halifax closed my account. I was left with no account and had to quickly set another account up to have my wages paid into. I think these charges were the reason I had to close my account, and feel I was forced into it. Does anyone think I could be entitled claim anything back? how would I go about it, and also I dont have any copeis of my statments from when I had then account.?
any help or info?0 -
Yes you can claim on a closed account, however, is this account in a debt situation? If it is they will expect this to be paid off.
You can send off the "Ask for charge details" letter to Halifax with your name, address and date of birth and they should be able to find your account.

A card debt of £3k is now worth £5,500. This is due to all the charges made on the debt by the credit card company. Now they are demanding the whole £5,500 to be paid back.
Can i go ahead and claim back these charges (£2,500) from the cc company and hence offset it on the overall debt, thus enabling me to payback only what i initailly owed (the full £3k).
I can afford to pay back the whole £3k and not a penny more, but they are refusing to accept my offer.
Any ideas ladies/gents? Has any one successfully done this before?
Many Thanks0 -
Read Martins article, and use the steps he sets out to get these charges back. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I'm currently in the process of reclaiming charges but have 2 Credit card accounts I want to claim from.
The problem is I closed these accounts a while ago and have no paperwok for them.
Is there any way I can still claim even though I don't know these details?
Or can I find out these details some how?
Thanks for anyones help.

Send our full name, relevant addresses and DOB and they should be able to trace your accounts. Do not send your phone number, any dealings with the bank/credit card company should be in writing so you have hard copies.0 -
Hi
My dad had an account with Halifax and was closed down, he had many charges with them and was wondering if he could claim them back.
He doesnt have his bank card or a cheque book for the account number.
Could anyone please advise me if he could claim and how he would go about finding his account number.
Thank you in advance.0
