Joint Account with ex partner (merged)

My bank account was previously in joint names with my ex-husband, now in my own name. Can I only reclaim charges from when it became my account or can I go back to when it was held in joint names? Thanks.

Hi there unless you get your ex's permission you can only do it from when it became your account0

I have had a successful £2000 claim against the Halifax for bank charges on a joint account with my ex-wife. We were married at the time the charges were taken but divorced when I made the claim and got the payout. So whose money is it? I know that it is morally 50/50 and I expect that I will give her half but, legally, does she have any claim on it? I would be interested for any thoughts or comments.0

Hi,
Have just received an offer from my bank refunding the full amount of charges claimed for, but run into a problem!
The account is a closed joint account with an ex partner who i no longer see or want to see.
The bank has asked for his signiture, to protect them from him claiming at a later date. I feel entitled to all this money, as we also had a joint loan, for £15k and £800 overdraft on joint account for which i have had to honour as he abandoned me and i didn't want to get into trouble with my credit history etc.. etc.. We also took out another loan with a seperate bank, and a hefty 5k credit card bill, which we ran up together. I have paid ALL of these debts since we split and he contributed nothing.
As i dont know where ex is or how to contact him, but obviously want to protect my reclaimed refund, what should i do??
many thanks in advance for any help or advice offered.0 -
Hi,
just wondered if anyone had any experience of claiming on a joint account with an ex... especially if you are no longer in contact with them?0 -

I claimed for a person on their joint account. They were seperated, and I put the claim through in just one name. This wasn't an issue at any stage. When the bank paid in full, the cheque was made out in the name of the person claiming.
This was for an account still in use though. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Possibly the answer would be different according to whether the bank has knowledge of a dispute between you anf your ex.0

Hi,
thanks for reply,
the bank are aware of a dispute. have noted on the joint loan, (held with them) that we are no longer together, and also the bank has probably noted that i was not happy about paying back the overdraft on the joint account...0 -
This is a really sticky one - though if the the account you set up only required one signature in order to operate not sure if they can say that they need both in order to continue."Think for yourselves and allow others the privilege to do so too." Voltaire.0

hi there
just about to give this ago, but firstly two of my old accounts were with my ex-husband, theres no problem with him signing a letter (he could do with the money too) but i have since remarried and have a different surname, if i sent a letter in my old name when it came to receiving a cheque from the banks i would have no-where to put it, so that isn't really an option plus i think it would be classed as fraud anyway. My dilema is if i sent my marriage certificate the bank could "loose" it and if i sent a copy they might not accept it...has anyone else had this kind of dilema
many thanks

But the charges that were applied to our joint account for 2 and a half years come to £2500. I have gained all the bank statements from the time it was joint but as i know longer speak to my ex ( and have no wish to) would i be able to reclaim some of the charges!?
Thank you
I assume you mean he had your name taken off the account and it is now his sole account - if this is the case then no you will not be able to claim.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0
