You can reclaim the charges on the account but you need to decide who makes the claim.0

I did this & won a coiple of weeks ago...BUT they will only write a cheque for half the amount to me & half to my horrid ex-husband. Not happy; but at least it's something.0

Hi
I am currently writing a letter to the bank (Halifax) to ask for the statement history. Only at the first steps but the account is now closed and it was a joint account with my wife but we have recently seperated. Can I still claim the charges back on my own or do the letters need to be signed by us both? And if we do both sign it can I pay a cheque made out to both of us into a sole account?
Thank you in advance0 -
Have a read of the above posts which should help you.0

I have sent a letter requesting repayment of charges, this is a joint account which my ex still uses, but I have asked for them to send half to me at a different address the the account address and pay half directly into account. Did they require signatures from both of you before refunding.

I opened a bank account in my sole name 10 years ago. 2years ago I changed it into a joint account with my partner. Since spliiting with him I contacted the bank to get his name removed & they said they couldn't do that & I would have to open an entirely new one in my own name. I've done this & have not incurred any bank charges since it being back in my own name. However I incurred lots of charges in the years previous to this. Does anyone know if I am able to reclaim these back with the original account closed? I am still with the same bank with just a new account number???0

Yes you can still claim the charges back off this account. Send off the SAR (Subject Access Request) under the Data Protection Act for your 6 years details as usual. I split with my husband 5 years ago and we are now divorced but the account has always remained in joint names and used to be used for his maintenance payments and my benefits until they started to hammer me with bank charges. The thing you may come up against is that they may want his permission as well for anything to do with the account but I havent come across this problem yet with Abbey and they are sending the details to me.
If the account is in joint names I see no reason why you arent jointly entitled to the information on the account in your own right. Good luck0 -
My ex husband made a claim on our account, which was signed over to me. Nat West moved the account to the address at Almondsbury. I went £50 overdrawn I had a phone call from the collection departments, bearing in mind my wages where due in, within the next week. So I managed to stop my wages going into the account. Now the account is £613 overdrawn £550 of that is charges. So be very weary of Nat West0

In my previous marraige we had plenty of bank charges on both the business account (in my name) and our mortgage account(both names). I was the only breadwinner in the household, but was married, can I still claim my charges back even though i am now divorced or do they require authorisation from my expartner aswell?
Please help, G0 -
If an account is in both names I believe you need to claim together, and your ex-wife would be entitled to half the charges back.Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH0
