Hi there,
Could anybody please give me some advice reference claiming charges for a joint account which I had with my ex, which has since been closed.
Is it possible to recalim back charges on a closed account and joint account?
Thanks0 -
Hi,
I am in the process of doing just that - claiming from the Abbey.
I got my ex-husband to sign a letter to the Abbey stating that he gives me full authority to represent him with regards to the claim on our old joint account (closed in Jan 05) - and that any correspondence from me, regarding this account, should be regarded as being on his behalf also. It also states that this authority only extends to this particular account and only in respect to the claiming back of bank charges (this gives my ex the assurance that I'm not trying to mess with any other accounts he might now have).
I've copied the letter and intend to attach a copy of it with all correspondence with the Abbey to eliminate the chance of them using lack of authority as a delaying tactic.
Annoyingly the Abbey replied to MY letter to them, addressed to my ex at my address - apparently they looked up the joint account number and took the first name off it to write to ... sorted now - but very annoying!!!!
All hinges on you getting on well enough with your ex for them to be happy to sign a letter for you.
Good luck!0 -
Hello there - first post.
I closed my current account over a year ago when I was getting divorced. It was a joint account with my ex. Is it possible to claim back charges?
Cheers.0 -
Hi all,
I have a joint bank account with the Halifax that was used by my Ex partner and I. We lived together for 5 years and accrued the bank charges during this time.
We dont speak now but due to the debt I was left in, I would like to claim the charges back to pay off her debts at the house etc.
What am I entitled to do in this scenario?
Thanks0 -
Hello,
I have just recenlty filed a complaint with Halifax with a closed joint account with my evil ex boyfriend.
the reason i started the claim was to help me out with the money that he has stole and left me with debts.
i dont have any contact with my ex.
Halifax have stated that they will send me a cheque but i have a feeling that they will send it in joint names. therefore i cant put the cheque in my own personal account.
is there anyway round it?? or what can i do?Bank Charges refunded from Halifax £2600Bank Charges refunded from halifax joint account £554Credit Card Charges refunded £300 plus interestI'm proud to be dealing with debt!!! :T0 -

Am in the process of reclaiming charges back from a secured loan which has been paid off. The loan was originally taken out in 1998 in joint names with my ex hubby. However, we split up in 2002 and I maintained the payments on the secured loan until it was paid up in 2003. If I reclaim the charges back will they pay me with a cheque in my sole name or will the charges be reimbursed in joint names should I be successful)?0

Can someone help or advise. I'm wanting to claim charges back on an account which was originally mine, but then I changed it into a joint account with my now ex-partner. When we spilt up she took the account on by herself and I then opened one on my own. Just wondering how I get on with claiming back charges when it was a joint account??????:beer:0

I think you'd prob have to do it together. It depends on whether your speaking to each other I guess. My ex wanted to change our joint bank account to her own, but I forced her to close it, as I didn't want any future partner of hers having access to bank details that were mine at some point. She prob would of just changed her account to a joint one, without a thought for my privacy. The thought that someone could at any point get 6 years worth of history for 'their' account and get my details kind of sickened me, so I made sure it was closed down. As with most things in a joint account, i'd expect that you'd need 2 signatures, and if they did pay out, I can guess which account it would be to. I hope someone can help you out better than I can. I think the best idea is to go into your branch and ask
Good luck, let us know how you get on.Wage Day Advance, Quick Quid, Pounds to Pocket and Pounds Till Payday....i'm after you0 -
we are still together, although my other half has reclaimed them jst in his name, and they didnt get in touch with me at all, so i cant see a problem, if i were you id do it before they do!:rolleyes:0
