    OP that is truely shocking.

I had my ESA medical Wednesday of last week, and although i was in my wheelchair, i offered if she wanted me in a normal chair, she said no.

When i came to physical stuff, she asked me was i capable of getting out of my chair, i said depends each days is different, was having a bit of a rubbish day, but she wanted to see, and i needed the help of the person who came with me, she asked me to do various things, which i did attempt but she could see it was causing pain, and asked if i did such and such would it hurt I said yes so she told me not to do anything if it hurt, or caused more pain.

From what i have read on these forums and others i half expected hitler to interview me, but infact i had a nice young lady, english wasn't her first language and she was very softly spoken so i stuggled to hear her, but i couldn't of helpped that.

Mine was done at Flowers Hill, Bristol. Mine took an hour

Usually, the assessor does 'seem' to act professionally.

Its only when you read the report, you realise how unprofessional and unethical they really are.
[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

I don't think you hould blame ATOS or DWP - you should blame the people who have abused the system over the years.

I appreciate that the OP would have been in pain doing the tests, but surely they would have been able to identify this by body movements etc. I think that the DWP have been forced to put people in pain to sort the genuine from the blaggers so to speak :-(

Fraud on disability benefit is one of the lowest fraud percentages around for benefit fraud, at 0.5 percent.

But it is still fraud! The amount is not the important factor, the people are stealing money - fact!

You cannot have a system that decides if the fraud is worth investigating based entirely on how much it is going to cost to investigate it!
  • I wish they would investigate all these rich people who place their money in offshore accounts so they dont have to pay tax in the uk.

In a way I would entirely agree with you. But you will find that the majority of those that have money in tax havens do so legally.

Those that steal money (benefits) should have the full force of the law down on them.

But its miniscule compared to the amount of non fraudulent claimaints.

You dont punish a majority for the actions of a minority.

ATOS medical tests do nothing to counter fraud anyway, if anything, they encourage fraud - due to the appalling disregard atos has for actual medical evidence.

My assessment was exactly like that!

The size of the level of fraud is immaterial. Fraud is fraud!
Or do you think that just because it is small when compared to the whole, they should turn round and say 'nah, it's not worth pursuing'?

It would seem that you do not live in the real world. Time and time again it is always the minority that spoil it for the majority.
There is no other way to weed out these parasites than to assess everyone! This is exactly what they are doing with ESA now and will do with PIP (DLA) when it comes into play.

How does the ATOS assessment encourage fraud? How does it encourage people to steal from the state?
  • I don't want to start a new thread when there's already one going about Atos. They've requested I go for a medical examination, in an area unknown to me and I'd have to take public transport to get there. I'm claiming ESA for Agoraphobia/Anxiety. There's no way I can get there without suffering from plenty of panic attacks & distress along the way.

And if I go through it all and get there, I'm sure they'll tell me there's nothing wrong with me because I got there, despite what it took. I requested a home visit from them, my doctor faxed through the details of why I need a home visit. They refused to give me a home visit.

I'm going to call them and explain that there's no way I can possibly get there. I'm at a loss. I don't understand why I've been refused a home visit. Any suggestions?
I'm still driving away and I'm sorry everyday,
I won't always love these selfish things.
  • You have to remember they have gathered an awful lot of info before you even get through the door..

They know how far the car park, bus stop, train station nearest drop off point is, hence "how did you get here" so they know how far you have walked. They know how long they have made you sit and wait, often they dont open the door as they know roughly how heavy it is to push open, and yes if you have got up dressed smart etc they see this as being able to look after yourself especially if you present well. So thats half the questions answered before you sat down and they asked you a question. And no offence to anyone my clients were seen by a very foreign person who they couldnt understand and who couldnt understand them so my clients couldnt get their point accross about the pain they were in.

Very sneaky if you ask me.... but it happens
