  • I have been looking through the broadband and phone info recently as I am now with o2 and BT for phone and am considering a change.
My calculations are open to question so please reply but I think that with the latest BT winter warmer offer I can get unlimited landline calls and broadband for £23 over an 18 month contract. At present I am paying £7.66 for o2 as I have a mobile contract with them. I also have to pay BT for the line and my BT contract is anytime evening and weekend and needs updating anyway.
The list on MSE shows the best to be very close to this. Am I missing anything?
    Thanks
    Pete

been offered the £5.50 tariff per month for Basic Broadband, plus I plan to take their home phone too for £7.50, it would be £13 per month for 12 months contract, which is what I pay for my BT landline alone at current. . . . is this a good deal?

I tried to call them again to inquire if the offer was still valid, but instead of asking that question, I instead ask for my MAC code and inform the rep that am moving somewhere else, she then have a look at my record and have given me the following offer:

All rounder package - Free (12 months)
    Home Phone - £7.50 (12 months)

and politely asked me if am happy with that offer, of course, I am and that alone is lower than the current BT landline am paying. I chose the £7.50 home phone as I only use it for Broadband, I normally use my O2 mobile in calling as I have few hundreds of minutes on my tarriff . . .

Now, all I do is sit back and relax and wait for the new router they will be sending me . . .

    Thanks O2. . . . :beer::beer::beer:

He's right, i took out a similar deal to what you talking about RJharrow, but with the unlimited home phone.

Was with O2 for 12months before this new package and never had any issues with the internet over that time. Think i had to reset my router about twice due to internet dropping.

Since being on this new package.... ive had about a stable connection for about a week.... My speed averages around 4mb when last year it was 12mb. Constantly dropping signal.... xbox live becomes unusable... even with my nat setting being opened for it.

Ive been ringing up complaining and im currently going through the different broadband channels in my router setting to see if it helps (that what the O2 CS guy told me to do) But it isn't helping really. Still VERY unstable and really prevent me receiving work from my customers (via dropbox). He also said it could be the new router because im using the line wireless. Last router never had an issue-but i think its just because of the traffic management.

All in all, i think i have been Massively mis-sold on this new package. If only i could have stayed on my old legacy package!! (btw you can choose the legacy line from your router 'home network' settings but it doesn't seem to help - wish it did)

Has anyone else had these problems? and found a solution? Ive been in this contract since dec so out of cancellation period

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Getting a bit boring now... you've made your point.

Not everyone downloads loads of torrents so don't care. :p

Obviously not as people as still happy to switch off legacy packages.

The All Rounder traffic shaping isn't just about downloading torrents.

am just a basic user, i.e. surfing the net, send emails, etc . . . . am not a gaming person nor have ps3, xbox, etc. I don't download files either except as an attachment from an email. At that price, it's just more than half of what am paying for my BT landline alone. If I won't have any connection at all, then that's another story, in the meantime, am happy with the offer and so far I have no issues with O2 anyway, thus, I stayed. . . .

I was on the Access package, I only realised recently that it had severe traffic shaping. For months I have been unable to play Spotify, watch Youtube or iPlayer, any download starts fast and then slows to a crawl. I only found out by accident that it was deliberate, I thought it was just O2's poor service. I asked for my MAC and moved to the Post Office on friday, and it is a world of difference! Same 3-4mb connection, but I can watch Youtube again, catch up with tv online, all the things that people keep telling us the internet is for... unless you are with O2.

I wouldn't go back to the traffic management they have, it is ridiculous.

Oh, and on Access it is at all times, not just peak! I couldn't play Youtube at 10am, let alone 10pm.

You making your point doesn't mean that everyone has to agree with you, so I do think you have made your point and people are now making an informed choice.

As for your second point, the vast majority of people on anything but the basics package will have a line speed <8meg. Therefore the only thing that will be affected will be P2P, nothing more.

Most people don't want or use P2P and just want a cheap broadband package. That is exactly what I have got @ £6.25 per month.

I use no where near 150gb that they give, even with x3 laptops and 2 desktops.
