  • This is a bit complicated but here goes: I accepted the 6 month free deal. At the moment I have an 02 mobile contract so after 6 months I will be paying £9.50. However my mobile contract which is via carphonewarehouse is coming to an end and they have no good retention deals. E2Save has a good cashback deal with o2 so I want to take out a new contract with them. I need to keep my number though and as far as I know the only way to do this is to port to a different network and port back to o2 on E2Save. This means for a short time I will be disconnected from o2. I plan to do this in the next month which is during the free 6 month period. My question is, is there any way this could invalidate my broadband deal or affect the charge I pay at the end of 6 months as by then I will be an o2 customer again?:undecided

    Hey Starving Artist,

You should be fine as long as you make sure that the o2 mobile number associated with your broadband is updated if necessary after you've reconnected.

I changed the o2 mobile I used for my broadband discount last year, and the process was fairly painless. Just head over to your online account area and follow the instructions from there. Also if any changes to your associated number are made, you'll get the standard email/text from o2 to confirm.

Out of interest, did you get the 6 months free on the legacy package or did you switch to one of the new tariffs?
  • I'm still on the legacy package :)

    Morning All,

I'm currently on the 02 Home Broadband Premium (£10.50 p/m including mobile discount), and was informed that my package would increase to £13 p/m in the price rise. I have been offered the following by 02 retentions:

    1) Discount of £2.50 p/m on current legacy package if I renewed contract for further 12 months. Effectively staying at the same price.

    2) 6 months free broadband for moving to new 'All Rounder' package, with 100GB limit, £12.50 p/m thereafter, 12 month contract.

From what I've read in this thread, there seems to be another option of getting 6 months free broadband on my current legacy package? I'm curious to know if anyone has managed to get this deal on the old Premium Broadband tariff?

I must say if I'm not offered that deal, I am tempted to go for the new All Rounder package - I don't download a huge amount, but still a bit concerned about any possible affect on speed or performance owing to traffic shaping or capping...

if you take your phone with them push for 12 months free on the works package thats the deal i got last week ..i went from
    the old basics package

I think you can port your O2 number to e2save O2 number with no probs, that what I did last september. I ported my O2 PAYG number to e2save Contract number in 1 day. Just call O2 customer service.

Those are the offers they have made to existing customers on standard package who aren't interested in getting their line rental from o2 or refuse to move on to a "new" restricted package. (Includes the £5 mobile discount)

If you were on one of the old packages the i believe its either £2.50 discount for 12 months or 6 months free with no discount after that. Both of these options require you to sign up for a further 12 months.

However many people have had trouble getting the 6 months free (read earlier posts).

Also to get cheaper price you need an O2 mobile account to link to the broadband.

The alternative is go onto one of the new capped and traffic managed packages......you could negotiate hard for a good deal if thats for you.

For me the six months free on my old standard package is fine working out at £4.75 p/m over the 12 month contract.

I will then re-negotiate or leave in 12 months.

    Hi all,

We renewed a legacy standard package (with the £2.50 discount for 12m) in January just before these price rises were announced.

So at the time our monthly cost would have been £5.11 for 12 months but will now be £7.00 - not a huge difference but annoying all the same. The O2 CS rep even sold it as renewing for 12m at £5.11 - they must have known that rises were shortly to be announced!

Am I right in assuming that there's no way to switch between legacy packages? I'd happily pay more for the legacy 'up to 20mb' service, whatever it's called, but priority is retaining uncapped usage / no traffic shaping as we don't have a TV so watch a lot of iPlayer etc.

    Thanks
    JC

If you rely on it that much, my advice is to take it on the chin. You could call up and argue but what are the chances of them putting you on a new package as a result of a new deal offered

Ask yourself is it worth the hassle?

In a similar situation myself, although i dont really NEED unlimited broadband, i still like it as I connect a lot of devices to my broadband and do the odd downloading. I'm thinking of just taking it on the chin rather than call up and then get my account messed around with.

In any case I can see them totally migrating old legacy users on to the new accounts in around a year's time.
