You know for certain within a few hours that they have kept you on your existing package (if that's what you want) as you get an email confirming everything.
  • Have read most of this thread and am slightly confused.

I finished my 12 month contract 3 days ago. I am on the £7.50 legacy package(o2 mobile discount). I called to clarify what I could do (before I was aware of the recent change in packages). I was offered a 12 month pay upfront £7 to stay on the same tariff.

I was going to call and accept.

Is there a further 6 months free being offered on top of this to people?
You know what... you can't beat a good bargain!!!

    No.

It has been offered as a separate retention deal instead of the £2.50/month discount.

(ie 6 months free followed by 6 months at £9.50)

My time with O2 finished yesterday at about 11am, and within an hour my Sky phone/line rental and broadband was up and running.

So far so good and download speed looks excellent too, although I read that it takes 10 days or so for new broadband profile to stabilise but not really noticed any difference from when I was with O2 :)

Because that would have meant having to get line rental from BT again

Edit: Just noticed that Be do have landline and call packages too, but even so £10.72 for Be's line rental/evening & weekend and Be pro at £22.44 = £33.16 a month - I'm on the equivalent from Sky costing me £21.25 (first 3 months are £11.25).

Do they switch you to the works straight away? How does it compare to your standard home broadband legacy package?

You have switched from the lowest tier (legacy package) to the highest tier (new package) so it will be interesting to hear your experiences.

just got the new better router in the post, email said it would start at the same time the phone changes over from bt in 2 weeks , i will be keeping a close eye on how it is compared to the old package, will post with how its going.

I'm on the standard legacy package and my bill is currently 12.77 but going up to 14.50 on the 31st March. I've just phoned o2 and they have given me a 2.50 a month discount. I would have liked more, but the standard package is so good that I am relieved that I have it for another year.

I was on their Standard policy at £7.50. Price increase was to £9.50. 8MB Max Speed, unlimited download

Phoned them to discuss, got a new 12 month contract, same T&Cs at £7.

Other option was the Basics which is £8.50 on their website, offered to me at £5.50 as a retention deal, again for 12 months. Up to 20MB speeds, 20GB download limit. But not recommended for gaming, also my line speed is a max of 7.5 (ish)

Phone them to "discuss". I didn't even have to ask what price can you do it for. Just get through to the retentions team.

Snap! Just did exactly this: without prompting, the guy made it very clear that I was already on "the best package with no traffic shaping or caps" and that I would stay on this. So: another 12 months on the legacy standard package for £7/month. (Obv my mobile is also O2)

Perhaps I could have tried holding out for the 6 months free offer that others have got, but tbh I would have stayed on O2 at £9.50/month so to get it for £7 (i.e. *less* than I have been paying for the past three years) is fine by me :D
