Not sure they really want to keep customers who are on the old tariffs .

It's only those who are on the old tariffs they need to "keep" - as they are the only ones with an opportunity to cancel their contracts scot free.

A friend has kindly offered to let me use his number, but I don't want him to be hassled by O2.

He won't be as long as you just use it for the discount (ie don't change your contact number with them).

I was well OUT of contract (never had any incentive before) and I still didn't get offered the six months free :(

It's perhaps understandable that they can't do you six months free in your instance (9 months left to run) but to be honest I do not know how or why some people get offered it straight away and others don't.

Totally agree i have had two long conversations trying to get them to offer the free three months but no luck just the £2.50 per month discount.

I am going to try the MAC code route as suggested by Quentin.

If thet dont go for it then will probably take the discount as i dont think i can get a better deal than £7 pm unrestricted and unlimited.

In that case ask for a MAC and see if that gets a sweetener.

Just did that and they said ... MAC code will be sent by email and text, please send the router back or its £50. Also we will have to charge a termination fee as you still have 9 months left but we will refund you this as your leaving because of the price increase.

She made no offers at all! Sorry your leaving o2, have a nice day is what she said. LOL
  • I guess some of us just got lucky.

I rang last week and just said I want a MAC. My contract had finished last October and I was on the Home Broadband Premium. Immediately they offered a phone line rental, broadband package which I didn't want, they then offered me 6 months free followed by £13 a month on a 12 month deal retaining my package, which I accepted. I have checked my account on-line and it confirms what they offered me and I received an email confirming the details- happy days !!!

Just been told that I can't get the 6 months free as I am in a new contract (Ends Nov 2011), has anyone who was on a new contract been ablke to get 6 months free? I read through the thread but could not find a answer to this.

    Thanks

I extended my contract with 6 months free on the legacy package which was due to end Sep 2011.

Is it necessary to go through to retentions to get the 6 month free deal, or is this being offered at customer service first level?

You dont need to go to retentions.I went to 'if you are thinking of leaving us' route and got my free 3 months.

And to answer your earlie query i guess the offer is there(on original package) due to the fact you have signed up for another 12 months(i have no problem with that)

No such thing as a free lunch, laptop or broadband, come to that.:D

Just phoned up for my MAC code. Have been on Home Premium for ages going up to £18 was offered it at £13 if I commit to 12 months. Going to look at the options, wish I knew if Sky were going to unbundle in Shepshed soon!

O2 told me that was fine when i asked that question.........

Oddly enough, I was told the exact opposite when I asked. Which is why I was asking you guys who have some experience with this sort of thing.

I was told that in order to retain the deal, I must top up. I'll try not topping up and see what happens. (And for the other poster, no I don't have much use for this O2 mobile - I got a sim just for cheaper internet.)
