I've just been offered a 12-month contract tie in, but at £7 per month on the same package. Just realised I'm actually £27 worse off than those who got 6 months free. Not long got off the phone, is it worth calling back or think just stay put?

I am in the same boat and accepted the £7 deal (£2.50 off) last week. I don't know how we stand having taken one deal then calling back and asking to swap to the other offer of 6 months free. I have seen that another poster has been able to swap to the better deal and I still have a week of "cooling off"......just wish I had got offered this in the first instance like many others have!

I'm still somewhat unclear what package the recipients of 3 months or 6 months free are usually being placed on? Since the whole aim of the differential price increase is to 'encourage' people to come off the unlimited legacy tariffs, why would O2 offer the 3/6 months free without insisting (or at least strongly pushing) a switch to the new limited tariffs?

Many (me included) have posted that they have been given 6 free months on their existing package, and you get this confirmed by email within hours of agreeing the new 12 month contract.

Just got off the phone with O2 retentions.

I'm on the legacy Premium package, paying the full £15 and this will go up to £18 in April.

The retentions guy immediately offered me £5 off if I sign up for another 12 months. I asked about getting 6 months for free, as that would make it £9 a month, but he said that is for O2 mobile customers only and their system won't allow "6 months free" to be applied to customers who pay the full whack like me. Seems odd, as they're making more from us non-O2 mobile customers, but there you go..

He did suggest I get a PayG and become an O2 customer as he could then give me the 6 months, and obviously I'd get the extra £5 off for being an O2 mobile customer as well.

I'm not sure i want the hassle of topping up etc to maintain that discount so may go with the £5 off anyway..

You can use any 02 mobile number (family/friend) you like, it doesn't have to be your own, or even in your household. You will save £60pa by spending £40, so it's really a no-brainer, even if you don't use the credit.
Topping up online 4 times a year takes no more than 3 minutes each time, and they normally text you to remind you when it is due.

According to bt I can get up to 8 megs.

According to Sky I can get between 10 - and 20 megs

On my current o2 I tend to get between 8 and 11.

Life is just far too confusing.

This may be a bit late for you now but the difference is in their networks.
Sky and o2 have put their own kit into your exchange which offers a service called ADSL2+. This is theoretically up to 24Mb/s download speed. (o2 only offer up to 20)

BT for a long time could only offer ADSL Max (up to 8Mb/s) and by the sounds of it haven't upgraded your exchange yet so this is the maximum you can get.

So the SKY package will be broadly similar to your o2 speeds.

  • Not sure how people are getting the six months free.

I am on the old standard package (out of contract) and have called twice threatening to leave because of the price increase. All i have been offered twice is the £2.50 discount if i sign for a further 12 mths. I have queried the six month free but told that i would need to have their home phone to get this.

Dont want to have to keep ringing and am now tempted to take the deal as its only £7 pm for the next twelve months - and then look to leave after that.

Any help on how to get the six months free would be appreciated.

Try asking for your MAC and see what offer they make to get you to stay. (They are spinning a yarn by telling you you can only get 6 months free if you have your phoneline with them!)
  • Dont really want to leave - as at £7 pm i dont think i could get better at present - however want the six month free.

If i request my MAC to call their bluff can i change my mind and stay??

Getting a MAC does not require you to change your mind. It's simply an option to cancel, if you don't use it then you continue as you are and it expires after 30 days.
