Asking for a MAC is more a tactic than calling their bluff! They don't just give you the MAC without trying to retain you.

why does it matter? when you call them you get number of options. e.g. billing queries, technical issues. one of this is "leaving us". so just go through that.

Just been told that I can't get the 6 months free as I am in a new contract (Ends Nov 2011), has anyone who was on a new contract been ablke to get 6 months free? I read through the thread but could not find a answer to this.

DO you mean you are on one of the "new" packages (ie, basics/all rounder/works)?

If so, then as you are in contract till November they aren't going to offer you any sweetener now - they have you bound to them by the contract.

No I'm on the legacy pack which will go up to £13ish.

Not sure they really want to keep customers who are on the old tariffs - as a result the price increases are greatest for these customers.

Will try the MAC code route and see how i get on.

I was well OUT of contract (never had any incentive before) and I still didn't get offered the six months free

It's perhaps understandable that they can't do you six months free in your instance (9 months left to run) but to be honest I do not know how or why some people get offered it straight away and others don't.

They will probably be able to offer you another incentive though.
