Ok, thanks for the help guys. That's made things much clearer for me.

I'm in a similar boat to this. Been with o2 a few years and paying £7.50, don't think I've had a letter yet though.

So what do I do? If I do nothing will my traffic be shaped? Or will be I have a Fair Usage Policy? Or does that all happened if I sign up to a new contract?

Pretty confused here if someone can help...
When you get the email it will say it will increase to £9.50. You will pay that from 31 March to remain on the same package, which is not supposed to be traffic shaped. One hopes they will not bring this in by stealth at some point. If you phone them and tell them you have had the letter (when you do) like most have said here they will likely 'offer' you 'The Basics' package, if your usage is low. That will be traffic shaped and once you agree you are stuck for a year.

If the offer you a discount to stay on the Standard package you will also be locked into a new year contract. If you are happy to be locked in again, you should get a confirmation email of what was agreed, and your Account Overview when you sign into your account will reflect the new contract length and price.

I'll give retentions another go soon before I leave for work. I never realised I could get Sky Broadband Unlimited for £10 so will quote that and see what they say.

They might give me the fabled 6 months which will take O2 to the equivalent of £9 a month. If not, it's MAC code and off to Sky I think as I just discovered they are also truly unlimited with no FUP or throttling.

Just been checking sky and seems i can get broadband unlimited and sky talk free time for £10 per month. Plus topcashback or quidco are offering £50 cashback on standalone broadband for new customers.

    Therefore a years service will be 12 x £10 = £120 - £50 cashback

£70 for the year or £5.83 a month.

Think its time to play hardball with O2.

If you are already out of minimum term, then one phone call should gert you at least £2.50pm loyalty discount off that.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

OK, looks like I'm off to Sky.

Just called and they wouldn't do the 6 months, so they're sending me that MAC and a Jiffy bag for the router.

Hopefully Sky will be good - one of the posters on anther forum said he switched from Be and got an extra 1meg download speed, so maybe their equipment at the exchange is more tolerant of iffy lines (like mine, which tends to sync just under 16, maybe as Sky is 'up to 20' I'll get a bit more). A bit of a lottery though as Sky's online site says I'll only get 8-10 though...

Plus with £50 Quidco that takes it to £6 something a month for the first year, and as I'll switch my phone over to Sky as well I'll save another £3 a month or so on line rental. £21.25 all in I think it is which is a pretty good deal...
  • TECHNO - go through topcashback for £50 cashback aswell.

How can he do that and Quidco together?
  • Didnt notice he already mentioned quidco - my error - its one or the other only but still £50.:j
  • Got my MAC, but I don't understand why I have to wait 7 days before using it, otherwise there's a £15 fine. Surely this is against 'the rules'? I guess it's to allow O2 to come back to me with an improved offer or something
