its been 4 days since you posted this. Are you still on the old legacy package or have they sneakily changed you to the new ones?

The e mail they send you after spells out that you are still on standard package.

    Hello ******

Thank you for choosing to stay with O2 Home Broadband on O2 Home Broadband Standard.

Your contract has been extended to 16/02/2012 and your loyalty reward of First 6 months free on O2 HBB Standard 12 month product will now be applied. We will let you know when this comes to an end.

    Best regards,

    Felix Geyr
Head of O2 Home and Broadband

I think I might also be able to answer your question as I got offered a new 12 month contract at a discount of £2.50 making it £7 a month instead of the proposed £9.50 a month.

The package is "still" home broadband standard so have not been changed to the new packages.

Mines going from £10.21 to £13, so I will be calling them and seeing what I can get. Obviously I won't accept being changed over to the traffic shaping package, just a discount to keep me on my current package.

With the legacy packages is it possible that the retentions team have usage data available so are being accommodating to light users and awkward to heavy users? Maybe would explain the apparent randomness of the responses.
Given the amount of data I shift in a month, that possibility seems highly unlikely.

Have a read through this thread and you will see they will give 6 months free in exchange for a new 12 month contract, and you stay on your current package!

I too have had the letter - increasing legacy product from £7.50 to £9.50 (although I currently have the £2.50 retention so should be from £5.00 to £7.00).

I also have 02 Home Phone so will be paying £17.00 in total (£10.00 phone and £7.00 broadband).

Now assuming I get offered the 6 months free broadband (existing package - assuming you don't get the £2.50 retention on top) then that will be £9.50 x 6 months = £57.00 for the year. Add £120.00 (£10 x 12) for phone then that is £177.00 for the year.

Looking at Orange their package seems to be £7.50 broadband and £11.50 phone which comes to £228.00 for the year - minus £70 Quidco cashback it brings it down to £158.00. My wife is an Orange customer (PAYG) so I still get discounted prices with them.

Finally the Sky package seems to be £7.50 per month for the broadband and £11.75 for the phone (£2.50 evening & weekend plus £9.25 line rental up front) - £19.25 per month which is £231.00 for the year. With £50 Quidco cashback it brings it down to £181.00 for the year.

So unless I'm mistaken Orange seems to be the best deal to go with (unless of course 02 can price match - but I guess they won't take Quidco into account).

But would you really want to switch from O2 to Horange for the sake of £19pa?
My Anytime phone package is now rising to £13.25.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

could any one advise me please. in september 2010 i renewed with o2 on a 12month deal where i got 3 months free broadband. the price will go up from £17.02 to £20.50. if i cancel due to the price increase ie morethan the rpi index. will ibe liable for a charge due to the 3 months free

You will have entered into a new 12 month contract to get the 3 months free so your new contract end date will be Sept 2011 but I have learnt that they won't hold you to the termination charge as the increase is £££s per month.

I don't think o2 will allow you out of a contract just because the price rises are higher than RPI. At least you will only have about 6 months of the new increase.

    No.

You can cancel without penalty because of this rise.

Or (maybe better), get them to give you the sweetener in return for starting a new 12 month contract now.
