  • All you people who rang up and said you were going to Sky, do you not receive the O2 customer discount?

Mine has gone up from £7.50 to £9.50... but to add my broadband to my sky TV (without adding phone) it will cost me £12.50 a month for "unlimited usage" so I can't really use that as leverage.

I was not asked where i was going to, just told them i was not happy and wanted my mac code to leave, they then made the offer to stay....

  • Thanks sanfly...

Worst case scenario - if they do give me my MAC, can I just not use it and carry on with O2 without any problems? Or will getting the MAC mean I definitely have to move.

As far as im aware the mac code lasts 30 days, if you do not use it, it lapses and you stay as you are, im sure somebody will say if that is wrong....

If you don't use your MAC it just "expires" and you carry on with the status quo (with the price rise being imposed after 31/03).

But if you are in contract, and request a MAC as a result of the proposed price increase and you don't use it, but let it "expire", then your contract would carry on till you cancelled it, and you would have to accept the price increase (ie. presently if you leave, then they won't penalise you for terminating early, but if you ask for a MAC then don't use it you won't subsequently be able to terminate early without paying the early termination penalties)
  • It seems to hit or miss whether you get offered a good deal or not.

I have an email reply clearly stating I am remaining on my Premium package and getting 6 months free so it will come in useful if O2 reneged on my deal.
  • Thanks for the help guys. Called up and after analysing my usage (heavy user :D) they saw that the "All rounder" package was the best option...

Asked about my landline phone but in contract so couldn't move that....

Bit of a friendly chat with her and she goes away to speak to her boss... comes back and they have agreed to give me 6 months free on the All Rounder and then 6 months at the regular £12.25 a month... averages out at £6.13 per month for the year... very happy with that.

You do realise they have swapped you off the unlimited downloads package you currently get for £7.50? And they would have given you the same sweetener of 6 free months to stay on that package for a new 12 month contract extension.

And check out Sponge's post #82 to see the horrors of traffic management that o2 carry out on the "all rounder" package!

If you are firm about wanting a MAC, and refuse their adding line rental suggestion they will give 6 months free on the standard unlimited package (currently £7.50 for mobile customers, going to £9.50 from 1/4/11) followed by 6 months @ £9.50.

An average of just £4.75/month for the year.
  • Quentin is right.

I have kept my unlimited (fair usage) package for an average of £6.50 per month. I would have another word with them if I was you.

Too late now - once you have been swapped over to the new packages there is no way back to the old legacy packages.
