Can you have widgets on the iPhone now? Personally I think its now Apple on the catch-up with Android
iOS, for all it's bells and whistles has always been playing catchup.

It took 3 years to be allowed a custom wallpaper :rotfl:

Well a week in and the SGS is on eBay, had enough of it. Some issues were.

Why is it sluggish? Only at times I admit but still enough to be annoying, I mean its gor a 1GHZ processor and 512 RAM.

Music isn't its strong point, getting my iTunes library was a pain, and its full of duplicates and missing meta tags etc, I just lost heart in fixing it.

Battery, If you stop all the push notifications, turn 3G of etc it will last longer than an iPhone, but turn them on and it won't hit lunchtime before dieing. I only turned push email of on iPhone and it easily lasts all day.

Most importantly the iPhone just works, Ok its very locked down but what it does it does well. Android very much feels like a work in progress.

Android is an extremely stable and capable "work in progress" in my 11 months of experience.

Because Samsung are idiots and used an RFS file system on it. There are lag fixes for it though.

There are lag fixes, but you need to root the phone and install some other stuff to resolve this. Personally, I wouldn't find it acceptable to have to do that to make any phone work well. My other half has an SGS and we applied the lag fix. The only noticable difference from a weeks use is that the email client is much faster. I agree, I find Android a 'work in progress' and hasn't yet matched the polish of iOS. That's why I'll continue to choose the iPhone myself until I feel that Android has caught up.

Am I missing something? The lag problems with the SGS are not Android issues, are they?

No but the rest of the OS itself doesn't seem as polished to me. It's also missing a number of tie-ins with my desktop computer that I find very useful on the iPhone (iTunes, contacts, calendar, notes, podcast syncing etc etc).

Syncing music for me has been a nightmare, Double Twist for example, I imported playlists etc from iTunes, when it synced over it missed most of the meta tags so now I just have the name of the song, nothing else. I then thought right i'll sync again, 1000+ tracks, this time for some stupid reason rather than copy on the SD card it copied on the internal memory again with meta data missing, so now I've a load of duplicates. To many frustrations

Odd, unless this is just an HTC Desire thing (as opposed to an Android thing) then I have all these tied into my phone. The ability to sync my Google Calendar on my HTC Android has been brilliant. iSyncr used to sync my iTunes library. Evernote = syncing of notes. The only thing I've not got yet is some of the better "music making" apps my iPhone buddies have... as a musician it would be nice if Cubase made their app available for Android... and Brian Eno released a brilliant synth app I'd like to see come to Android. These things aren't enough for me to spend double what I did for the HTC, mind you, and now that Android is becoming more widely known these apps will undoubtedly start coming to the OS.

I've heard bad things about doubletwist so went for a combination of MixZing and iSyncr and it works brilliantly. The playlist maker MixZing has is better than iTunes "Genius" function.

Are you sure you really gave it a fair chance? Having an Android phone may mean more thought on the user's part (which music player to use, for example) but I think that's a plus, you have the choice! Tbh maybe it's a shame you never got the Desire, I almost got the Samsung but all my research showed the HTC to be a better phone.
