  • I phoned tonight saying I wanted just to go onto the freeview options as I only occasionally watched movies. (I had had a discounted 6 months from the full package - £33 instead of £41.) I was put on hold and eventually spoke to someone who said I could save about half my costs by dropping the movies. I said I'd just cancel and may come back if I missed the movies. She just said OK, then, you'll be cancelled from the beginning of October and you can call us if you change your mind. :(
  • Thanks for this tip. I got the full package for £20.50 for 3 months. Took 4 mins on the phone to sort out. ;)
  • First post...

    Hey everyone...

I am planning to move soon and said i had to tighten my belt (again true)

The nice chap offered me my £19.50 package for £13 for 3 months or a brand new sky box. Mine is crashing at the moment quite alot so replacing my old Pace box for free suits me fine. No use having all the channels with a crashing set top. There is no tie for this and i can phone back after this is fitted and try again.
    Thanks for the tip. :D
  • Is it just me, or do probems with hardware start as soon as you downgrade your package?

I switched from full package to sky sports 2 package 2 months ago. They were able to switch all "not required" channels off virtually straight away. Since then, most of the remaining channels regularly display "no satellite signal" during normal watching hours, then mystyriously come alive late at night; or are interfered with midway through programme without warning from weather, etc. Maybe i'm cynical, but are they messing me about? They know what i watch and what i don't. That which i don't watch is always available. Spooky coincidence or are they just at it with me? Cancelling tomorrow unless they fix for free. Will post result.

    Goodnight

    *** update 21:00 sat night 11/09/04

Rang through to switchboard on 0207 7053000. After being told that the 0870 route was the only one open, i insisted that i would not be paying premium rate costs to talk through "their problem" and requested transfer to cancel my account. Root change.

    Result?

Engineer coming out on monday 13/09 to check system and if necessary replace any worn part, dish or digibox included; for nothing. Wehey!!!!!! ;D

I have to say that i would have cancelled if necessary and despite their assurances still believe the problem is with Sky's end.

Advise firm but calm approach. No shouting or swearing. Run it through your head before you call. Don't moan; Complain.

Will post again with result after repair completed

Great post and thanks in particular for 0207 number.

    Hiya,

I've been having problems as well, rang to cancel a week or so ago and was offered full package half price for 3 months, everything ok at first but tonight a most of my most regular watched programmes are not coming on , not receiving any message just when i flick onto them the box shuts off, channels 1, 2, 3, all movies, all shopping channels (obviously very important to a woman. LOL) and a few others are affected, seems very strange,

will ring tomorrow to see what they have to say, will keep you posted.!

  • thanks for a great tip, rang sky, told them i want to cancel!!!!!! thay said how about if we give you 3 months for £20.50 a month? that's for sky movies and sky sports. don't like sports!!! well we will give you all the movie's for £17.50 many thanks i said (to you at money saving expert)
    ;)
  • I've tried three times now and still have been offered nothing. So Wayne Looney you are not alone. My next move will be to ring up using Glad's advice and say that a friend has been offered half price deal so why can't I have the same offer. If that doesn't work I think I will let it cancel at the end of the month and wait and see if they offer anything then. I find it really strange that so many people are getting the offer but a few of us aren't. I have been, calm, polite and so genuine on the phone that I almost believe myself!
  • Am on basic Family Package, and have been for several years.

Called Sky and said I wanted to cancel due to too many repeats etc, and was immediately put through to second advisor who has reduced my subscription by £6 a month for 3 months, but she stated there were no discount movie packages available at present. Both advisors that I spoke to were very friendly and polite, and it was made clear that even though I was paying a lower rate, it was still possible to phone and cancelat 30 days notice if that was what I wanted to do.

Let's see what ofers there are in the runup to Christmas! :)
