YES!

Phoned NTL, told them that we have phone and broadband with them but TV with sky.
Just said 'would quite like the convenience of having just one bill with NTL, what could they offer me to persuade me to change over to them?'
They said...........
They would give me my telephone line rental (worth £9.50 per month) free for a year, saving £114 ;D
Or, put another way, I effectively got the family pack (TV) for £10 per month for a whole year instead of £19.50 with sky.

We are considering cancelling Sky because tried to ring last week when a fault developed, got the number from SAYNOTO0870.com, which took us through tho the switch board, where a lady told me that I could only ring on the 0870 no., .. so I did, only to find out there was a waiting time of 14mins !!! ... rang back the lady on the main Sky reception (where in the past I had been put through) only to be told that she would not be able to help me and I shouldn't be ringing as I was clogging up thousands of very important calls!! (mine obviously wasn't important!!), Now I think cancelling and getting 1/2 price for three months wouldn't be so bad, but how would I get through without having to dial 0870? ..... ???

Just so you know that NTL deal isn't a special deal, it's their standard practice. It's on their website about the free line rental for a year, and I've even had junk mail about it for a few years now.

I tried the non 0870 number and was on hold until it cut me off twice, one time the department wasn't even open. I phoned the 0870 number and found this out immediately. The second time I phoned up at 8:55pm on a Friday and got straight through, was done and dusted in three minutes flat. I kid you not. I think it depends on the time of day you phone up, perhaps lots of people are out binge drinking on a Friday night, instead of phoning up sky.

I didn't say it was a special deal, I said I saved £114 by switching to NTL.
I tried the sky thing, waited ages, got through to a woman who was very unhelpful so I cancelled, was not offered a bribe to stay.
Phoned NTL, got through straight away to very helpful woman and saved money.
A few pepole felt awkward at trying the sky thing, especially now, so was letting them know they could save by switching to NTL without having to be sneaky.

Just rejoined after 10 months, got 6 months at half price. Naturally well pleased. They must be getting concerned about cancellations!

This worked for me too this morning.
11 minutes on the 0870 number and I cam away with the discounted family pack for £13.50 for 3 months.

I did hint that there was nothing for me to watch on the family pack and I LOVED films but i wasnt offered a discounted upgrade.

I'm not quibbling. the easiest £18 I ever made!

Can one try this while still under 12 months i.e. I joined sky about 4 months ago, can I ask them to cancel or do I hv to wait 12 months before I can try this

Dont think so, in that 1st year they have you by the short and curlies after that they WANT your business.
