are you bottling out at last minute?
you need to insist you're going to cancel until bitter end.
Don't say you've changed your mind and want to keep, instead insist you're cancelling right up until point you're offered deal.
If the worst comes to the worst and they do cut you off,it takes 30 days to do this anyway,so you've got plenty of time to get re-connected.
    Give it a go!
Let us know how you've got on

    Did this today and result.
Was passed on to a second department after explaining I wanted to cancel. They tried to persuade me to downgrade - I am currently on Movieworld at 35 pounds.
Remained firm and was offered Movieword for 17 pounds per month for next 3 months.
Only way to do it is to remaind firm that you want to cancel. I think if they detect for a moment that you might not cancel they wont offer the deal

    Thanks to original poster.

  • Hi guys,

I was absolutely firm that I wanted to cancel first time, no bottling, and they put the cancellation through - no offers, no putting me through to another department. Second time I rang on the pretext of checking when the 30 days were up and asked if I could reconnect in the future. They said yes - but no offers. Third time I rang and said I would consider reconnecting if there were any special offers. They said none on at the moment! Might try again today on the pretext of checking that the cancellation has gone through or shall I wait until it actually has gone through in 23 days time? What do you think?

I think that the length and type of your account might be a factor. It might also be that Sky have seen this (or other similar posts) and are calling people's bluff.

I am a very long term customer (8-10 years??) and I got a couple of months discounted twice now. I am reasonably happy with that and as a result will keep my subscription going for while as it gives me more choice even though I only have one of the basic packages.

As far as £30-£40 per month for Sky goes, I would rather spend my money elsewhere. Having said that, with the appalling standards and bias, I think that I would rather drop the BBC. :-X :-X :-X :-/
  • You could be right MisterT. I have only been a subscriber for a year and joined on a £10 installation deal. My 1st year was up in July. Anyone else have any views on this?

Our 1st year was up in July this year also. When we phoned to see if we could get deal, we 1st asked them if our 12 months were up(cos we weren't sure). We didn't have prob getting deal, it was offered to us.

    hi

one thing i would recommend to get offers in the future is if you have sky for sports cancel it or downgrade to minimum package as soon as season finishes and when they ask why just tell them you can't afford and there are too many repeats(which is true)

i think they make a note of why a customer is cancelling.

if you keep the full package for a long time i think they guess you can't live without the sky!

reading here and other chat forums sky offer best offers to customers who have cancelled or on a minimum package ::)
Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
    you are on!

if i had known then what i know now!

a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!
  • we have had sky for about 6 years, family package we cancelled about 4 months ago, last month they wrote to us offering half price for 3 months, we ignored the offer, on Saturday they wrote to offer us half price on 4 packages for 6 months, we ended up with family package for £9.75 a month, kids happy simpsons back ;D
    have a nice day
  • I got offered same deal as cooksie.
Had cancelled my sky subscription a few months back and got offered 6 months 1/2 price on a range of packages (with no further tie-in after 6 months).
So got the sky world and family pack for £20.50 p/m for 6 months.
This offer is only for customers who have cancelled their sky accounts but still have the digibox & dish.

    Good luck.
  • Offer must still be on because we got it in august!

6 months half price offer expired in june.

but you should be able to get the 3 months offer call them again and chances are you will speak to different person.
