    ::)

    I called last night and got my 1/2 price deal, but it did take 2 calls. The first of the day just said fine cancel, the second gave me my discount.

    The young man I dealt with also told me about Sky+. He said DO NOT buy until Jan 05 as they are going to reduce the price, but apparantley are not making it public yet.

    They're bringing out a new box, made by Thompson, the Sky+160. 160Gb which holds about 80 hrs of TV. A hefty price tag of £399 is being bandied about at the moment, although this would probably go down in time. Considering the relatively low cost of hard drives, the price seems excessive. The box has USB ports and there is speculation as to what they may be used for.

    I think they may also be bringing out 80GB hard drives as standard in Oct. <current is 40GB> So with all the changes, prices will probably change too.

    Just spoke to Louise at Sky - very friendly lady - and I have upgraded from Family pack to movies and sports for 50p extra per month ! (Got through no problem on the switchboard number at no cost as I use onetel)
    This offer has apparently been running for some time and ends in November. Louise said that I should call back in November and ask for the next special offer to be applied to my account when this offer ends.

  • Thanks for this great tip, I have just rung Sky (on the 0870 number) the first person I spoke to was almost incomprehensible and said it was fine that I wanted to cancel but he would need to put me through to accounts so he transferred me to a very nice lady called Debra who was was very helpful but it was only when I said that "a colleague" was only paying £1 per month more than me and got the full package (I only have the family package) that she spoke to her supervisor and said I could be upgraded immediately. She was also helpful in telling me that I should make a note of today's date and 3 months from today incase I don't want to continue with the full package at the full price

    Just called and told them we wanted to cancel. They offered us the Family Package at 1/2 price but hubby was persistant and asked what else they could offer. After a lot of coaching they upgraded us to the full package for only an extra 50p. Great result. Thanks

    Rang today and after giving all my details to the first person they told me they couldn't personally complete the cancellation and would put me through to someone who could. That person then asked why I was cancelling and I said there wasn't enough quality programming to justify the cost. They then offered me a choice of either the Family pack (my current) for £13pm for 3 months (£6.50pm saving) or any combination of the movies/sports packages for half-price for 3 months! Went for the movies package (includes Disney channels) for £17.50pm. ;D

    Queried what would happen after the 3 months and was told it was EXACTLY 3 calender months (so my deal lasts until 28th Nov) and that unless I rang to downgrade my package before that date I would start paying the full price for it.

    Damn good timing too since this morning my 2 year old son broke the loading mechanism on our Sony home cinema DVD player by wedging a DVD into the loading slot whilst it was both switched off and had another disc already loaded :(

    When you say there was no deal, did you get to the stage of actually being told your account would be cancelled in the standard 30-days notice period? If not try again - even if they tell you they've arranged the cancellation you could ring them back anytime up to the 30-day notice date and tell them you'd changed your mind.

    Besides when I rang they implied that what they were offering me wasn't some special last-gasp effort on their part but a pretty standard promotion that happened to be running!

    I agree with Phil_P - they told me that it was an offer that they do not publicise and all sky customers had to do was phone in and ask what offers were current.

    When I rang, the person said things like, "As you've been Sky for so long"...  "You've been on the Sky world package"...  "I can give you special offer"...

    Maybe they have criteria on who they can give the deal to.  Might explain why some people haven't been able to get it...? ???
