Virgin Mobile Retentions deals
Has anyone been offered a good retentions deal with Virgin mobile lately?
I'm on a month to month contract with them and get 800 mins, 3000 texts and 1gb internet for £10 a month (I don't use anywhere near that). I'd like a new smartphone though, possibly a Nokia n8 or Motorola Defy.
I can get the Nokia n8 on T-mobile for about £20 a month (300mins, 300txts and 1gb internet) or the Defy for about £15 a month on the same usage allowance.
If anyone has been offered a good retentions deal with Virgin mobile I'd appreciate it if you would let me know, so that I have an idea how far I can push them.

I was hoping to get the Nokia n8 on a decent retentions package with Virgin for around £15 a month. I don't need the 800 mins and unlimited texts I'm getting just now. I'd need at least 300 mins, 300 texts and a 1gb data allowance though.
Does this sound unreasonable?0 -
Don't know if it helps but I had a call from Virgin today as my contract runs out in March. They offered me an HTC Desire with 250mins and unlimited text and internet for £20. Alternatively the HTC Wildfire for £12 with the same deal. Currently Looking at reviews of the Desire and it looks like an excellent phone. Probably going to have a look at one in town tomorrow as Virgin are ringing me back on Monday.0

BE VERY CAREFUL not to agree to a contract with not enough minutes.
In your earlier post, you said you want "at least" 300 minutes.
The deal they've offered you comes with 250 minutes
Virgin's run-on rate after bundled minutes is 31p PER MINUTE.
Those extra 50 minutes would cost you £15.50 EVERY MONTH on top of the monthly line rental amount.
I'm not trying to sound like I'm stating the obvious, but this is always sometime worth checking, and a trick many of the networks are using now - charging over and above even their standard PAYG rates if you run out of minutes.
Hope this helps!0 -
Hi Stuart
I think you might be getting mixed up between my post and those of the OP. It was me who mentioned 250 mins and as I have never been over the 100 mins of my current contract that should be plenty for me. The OP is looking for 300 mins.
I have been to have a look at the HTC Desire today and am pretty impressed. I'll try to haggle with Virgin on Monday though to see if I can get it any cheaper

Let me know how you get on with that will you?0 -
Had a similar deal, was moving away from Virgin regardless (moved recently and they have absolutely awful signal where I am now) but was offered 600mins, 3000texts, 1GB data and a free HTC Wildfire (I didn't need a new handset as already had an iPhone 3G - but asked anyway as it can't hurt to have a new phone to sell).
They didn't offer me a phone at first, and to be fair the Wildfire isn't exactly a great phone, but just ask and see - it can't hurt.0 -

How much were they going to charge you a month for that if you don't mind me asking?0 -
No additional charge for the phone, £9 p/m. Was absolutely astounded at the deal to be honest - guess it only came about because I was honestly incapable of staying with Virgin at all, such is life.0

Thanks for that. That's a fantastic deal you were offered and it gives me an idea of what I can expect to haggle for.
Wonder what they'd be looking for a month for that deal with the Nokia N8
