I can't believe the advice so far, lol.
Batgirl, I'm assuming the mileage is low/average for the model year? If you bought it from a dealership, especially a main dealer, and spent £7,500 on a car, I'd like to think they sold it with some kind of waranty. Even if they didn't, if you don't believe it's fit for use, you have every right to ask them to check it out for you, even after 6-weeks with it. It would be a different matter if you bought it privately, but you didn't. You could just be unfamiliar with it, being a new car to you, and it is French, don't forget!
I'm sure if you take it back and explain your concerns, the dealer will help you out.
Its a peugeot 207 s 1.4 75 a/c 5dr.
and yes the advice has been far from what I expected on MSE but fortunately the last few people have been very helpful so will get there in the end.May 2015 £10 a day currently £2080 -
If it was ice then it doesnt matter what type of car you had it would slide...

From these comments alone it sems it was the conditions not the car, just give a few weeks to get used to it and don't forget that not all tyres are the same, not all cars are the same in slippy conditions, and that there is nothing wrong with having a slip and a slide in an unfamiliar car on slippy roads. And above all remember that when you felt the steering go light you had already lost most of your grip, even a slight turn of the wheel or dab of the brakes could cause a spin.
Every body has different driving skill levels and experience, if yo drive a few times a week then you will struggle in these conditions compared to somebody that drives hundreds of miles a day.
Don't be over critical of yourself or the car, you will be a better, safer driver because of these little slips and slides, you will be better prepared for the next time.
Thank you for this, I do drive at the very least 6 days a week but I tend to drive a different car this is our second car so when my husband isn't using his, (he works from home) I drive his.May 2015 £10 a day currently £2080 -

Does this make any sense???
Sentence one: Any car would do it
Sentence two: It was my faultMay 2015 £10 a day currently £2080 -
Maybe you should suggest to your husband that he should take the 207, ahem........
After all, in sickness and in health, for richer for poorer and all that.........0 -

OK, I haven't got a Peugeot, but I don't think they are that bad to be honest. Choice of car is personal, so what you like, I may not and vice versa.
A couple of things to consider:
1. Definitely check the tyre pressures regularly (I check ours weekly)
2. Even though the car isn't particularly old, have you checked to see what the tread depth is on the tyres - are they worn & need replacing?
3. Don't know what make of tyre, but some are better in poor driving conditions that others, so when you do change, that may be worth investigating, as may a set of winter tyres.
I'd try those routes before I even thought about getting rid of the car - hope that helps a bit!0 -
