You would see the mould on it too, it always shows up pretty quickly, imho.

Sniff the bag contents before you taste it too. Mozzarella doesn't smell too strongly when it's OK.

  • A jar of olives - purchased weeks ago (may be a month ago). They have been kept in the fridge since opening. I only noticed, a few days ago, in very small print "consume within two weeks of opening". I can certainly see that, towards the bottom of the jar, it has become "cloudy". The two olives which I had in my sandwich earlier were fine. Is there a shelf-life thread on this forum somewhere? I searched "shelf-life" but nothing relevant to this was displayed. I would have thought that a jar of picked olives would last longer than two weeks - anyone any idea?
    Thanks

My personal test for olives is "Are they mouldy? No? Ok eat them then"...

    Hi T.F.S.B.I.G.W.S.

My guess is that they will be fine. While it's difficult to offer advice without seeing the olives, I've certainly kept jars of olives for much longer than two weeks in the fridge. I normally go on instinct....if they look ok and smell ok, then I taste them and if they taste good then I eat them. :)

  • Quick question - does anybody know if it's safe to freeze Morrisons' value sliced ham? It doesn't say anything on the packet about freezing, be it suitable or not.

    Thanks

    Hi princess*daisy,

It freezes well........just don't keep it frozen for much more than a month because it can be prone to freezer burn.

    This thread has more advice:

Can you freeze prepacked Ham ?

  • I buy tomato puree in tubes which I use for home made pizza. However if i dont use it all in one go I find it "blows out" the tube and escapes. Is it still safe to use even though its not yet reached its date?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that, but what I usually do with tomato puree is put a tablespoon in each section of an ice cube tray and freeze it, then take a cube out for each tablespoon as needed.

Where do you store it? Maybe you could try storing your next tube in the fridge to see what happens? I keep mine in the fridge & it keeps for ages. (Lazy garlic never lasts for me though no matter where I store it!?) :)

ETA, forgot about your original question, sorry! If it has blown then I wouldn't use it.
