Just about to cook dinner and thought I would make some HM Yorkshires... BUT I am not at my own house and the SR flour I found was dated BB End Jan 2009  (suspect it has been refilled with Mr T Value stuff since then rather than actually be that old but can't be sure!)

More than happy to use it, slightly concerned puds won't rise, can't see anything crawling in it :D

So peeps, what do we think... Use it or miss out on yorkshires tonight ?
  • I use plain flour for Yorkshires anyway...just beat it a bit better :)

I agree, as long as there aren't any weevils in the flour, it should be fine!:)
  • White flour has nothing in it to go rancid so I reckon it'll be fine even if it is dated BB Jan 2009

    Hi frugal,

I also use plain flour for yorkshire pudding so providing there are no weevels in there it should be fine and your puddings should rise.

I'll add this to the Quick Questions on food safety / sell by / use by dates thread once you've had some more opinions.

Yorkshires are in the oven using the Plain Flour which was even older than the SR flour... Aug 2008 if the pack is to be believed :D

In my freezer I have 2 packs of red berry smoothie mix, best before end April 08, are they safe to use? I know BBE is just a guide, and if it was just a few months I wouldn't hesitate, but over 2 years I'm not sure about, so does anyone know how far past BBE is safe to use? Thanks!

    Sue.
