Bumping for the Rip Off Britain coverage this morning. NIBE trying to blame the HA and the residents...0

Oh dear, I just heard this covered on You and Yours.
It sounds like these were very badly specced and installed systems - I'd posted something about this problem over in the ASHP thread.
Although I know exhaust heat pumps are slightly different to pure ASHP, the principle is the same, and I fear on might be giving the other a bad name.
As I mention in the other thread, for us, on oil/lpg on a properly specced system, it HAS led to a dramatic reduction in bills.
But if the people in these housing associations had access to gas, then there is no way a heat pump should have been installed. Which makes me think, if the engineers don't know that, then no wonder the wrong system has been fitted.
Anyway, here's my post on the subject: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=55735637&postcount=1690 -

From over a year ago:
The only figure I noticed as s struggled through those graphs, which I still don't understand, was 16 degrees.
If the exhaust from the building is below 16 degrees then the unit does not even try to...
Another self evident problem is getting tenants on small incomes, facing the "heat or eat" challenge, to take the leap of faith and run the machine 24 hours per day with an emphasis of getting the most out of it between 00:01 and 07:01 hrs. (Economy 7)
Poor people know that if money is tight, you turn off the fire early and go to bed. That is the way it has worked since central heating became available to replace the paraffin burner in the 1960's.
The instruction manual for the NIBE system, explored on here near the start of the thread, explains that is is just not built to work at internal temperatures below 15 degrees and so desperately throws its full price immersion heater into the mix to try to heat the buildings structure up to "normal" (Swedish) operating temperatures.
[As I primary school child aged 7, I clearly remember the class room heated by a coke stove opposite a large red thermometer with 60 degrees (Fahrenheit) clearly highlighted.
"Why are you shivering child? The temperature in here is 59 degrees. You tell your mother to send you to school properly dressed tomorrow"!! - this I think meant flannel under wear]
Personally I think "affordable" homes should be built with some sort of multi fuel stove, so even those on benefit can keep themselves warm chopping wood.0 -

We can chat all day but here on loves farm NIbe have been out to re commission the homes..and left saying they are ok,,so even Nibes engineers dont know what they are looking at,,so odd why independents say they had been undersized...fine if nibe did not design the spec...but we have in black and white evidence that nibe did design the spec for kier homes,,,from kier them selves...don't blame social housing many of us in social housing these days are professionals.....with brains,,,,due to the housing sector requiring 20% deposits,,,it is us who have championed this drive for the truth and trust us when we say this is just the start ,,,,
Remember it is your tax money that has been wasted here(as HCA funding paid for it) and you and your children's air that is polluted.
The maths have been done the reports written the facts are the systems cannot cope with new build homes that are 1,2 bedroom flats,2,4 bedroom homes ,semis and terraces.....unless they use the immersion element which is a lovely 6kw ....
leaving the system run 24 hours makes no difference..we did in the 1st year and it was £1,300 for the year.
We switch ours off and our last yearly bill was £800.
the damn machine when the outside temp gets to anything below 10C..it sucks in that outside air at a rate of 130m3 per hour no wonder the heat pump cannot cope,,,,fact,0 -
sorry but ....the fact finding has been done ...so all thats left is how we pursue this legally
do you really think HAs would use £100,000's ripping them out if they are not flawed...
these systems best suit building with a room with a high heat output like a computer server room....then it will work a treat using the heat of that room to heat the rest...0 -
You cannot get RHI funding for exhaust air heat pumps as they are not deemed as renewable....
The European renewable energy directive does not see Exhaust air heat pumps as renewable /they do see air source as.
The RHI does not see Exhaust air heat pumps as renewable, they do air source.
Funny enough MCS who certify the products say that they are renewable,,,....quango!!
we complained to UKAS as we had been concerned about the BREs cert,,,they came back with" they had found that the BREs certification needed improvements"...
your tax money pays for these private companies to regulate.....quango!! hidden in the private sector..0 -

oh and before some smart person says...so what's happening then..... your still stuck with it.....
sorry but our nibe is being pulled out and replaced with a gas boiler at the Has expense...so if they are so great very soon there will be many available on ebay...you can buy one and use it in your homes...Plus Dane Ha tried to sell some on ebay....they got £12 for one...so there you go a £12 heat pump for you .,,,bargain....for all you pros,,,??????????????!!!!0
