  • Hey Giz. Josh got a few nice things - some clothes, books, a nice wooden toy where the baby has to fit the different shapes in.

DS has some books that are for an older age too, but he still loves us reading them to him :)

I wouldn't pay attention to age ratings on books. The most important thing at first is getting them used to sharing a book and developing an interest in reading. If you can develop a love of reading from a very early age, it does help a lot when they go to school.

Shape sorters and building bricks are a good choice as they develop mental skills. Look at simple musical instruments too like maracas and bells. Charlotte liked shaking them along to music.

I bought The Gruffalo and a box set of Dr Seuss sometime ago, just cos I love them so much. Have been reading them when LO was a bit younger just so she can hear the rythmn of language rather than understand the stories.

Hope Josh had a fun day MV.

While we're talking birthdays and parties would be grateful of some food suggestions for one year olds. Nothing too junky that will send them haywire and that adults won't mind eating too. So far I've thought of egg sandwiches, finger veggies & dips, falafels, blueberries and of course cake.

Great, maybe I will get the gruffalo book then. Musical toys would have been fab but I know he has the same set as Maddy (little drum from tesco that comes with maracas, clastanet and xylophone)

I've been wondering what to do food wise too MI3. I don;t want to have to cook anything.

So far I'm going to have breadsticks, the little heinz finger biscuits, yoghurts, fruit and I'm stuck what to do for the main part of lunch. I know Maddy and 2 others aren't really eating sandwiches at the moment! She used to wolf down a Philly sandwich. Now she doesn't want to know. These days she has soup, baked potato or toast for lunch. I think I might have some potatos on standby, I guess it wouldn't be too hard to chuck those in the oven.

  • No AF yet. So icy and cold, I don't want to go out yet. Just found an old OPK in my drawer and did that. Test line came out first and is much darker than the control line. Not sure what to think. I am either ovulating (I don't think so) or ??????

Becles is right about the books

Squeak loves books of all kinds, and as long as you're sat with them they don't tend to trash them too much! She loves the Amazing Baby ones because they have all the different baby faces in them, and she has one about playing peekaboo and she kisses one of the babies, also a few of them have mirrors in and she loves to pull faces at the mirrors (and kiss her reflection!)

Sorry I've been AWOL for so long, there has been laptop trouble. There still is, I'm just using OH's whilst he is out!

For anyone who doesn't know, baby Isla was born on January 3rd at 9lb, smooth labour (Got to the pushing stage on paracetamol - I was in denial about being in labour :rotfl:) and we came straight home more or less straight after

I hope everyone is well, sorry I haven't read back because that would be about 5 million pages :o Happy birthday though to all the LO's turning one, I can't believe how fast they are all growing up!

  • Congratulations Delain - Love the name!!

Wow, saw in your signature how may children you have. And here is me potentially freaking out at being pregnant with another one as well as my DS who is 1 on Thurs.

Always wanted more than one but it took us 2 years and a miscarriage to have DS. I just didn't think it could happen so soon after the difficulty the first time when I am still bf and my cycles are not really back. Oh and we must have DTD once in the last few months - Sorry TMI!!

Congrats Delain. That's a lovely name. Hope you are well xx

Dunno about the test BP. I'm not sure how those tests work.

Freezing cold here too. It's been -5°C the last two mornings and the frost is still really thick outside.

Took the old mattress to the tip this morning as Charlotte is at her Dad's so she'll be disappointed when she comes home!

Just pottering on at home catching up on jobs today. Been to Homebase and bought some bits to do some DIY jobs and I'm busy cleaning up Josh's laptpop as he's managed to download a virus on it.

Congratulations Delain, I'm very impressed at you doing it to pushing on paracetomol. However there's no way I'll be attempting that cos I can't wait to get the gas and air again :D

BP - can't you just get a test! The suspense is killing me. I have no idea about ov tests either.

  • Sorry Giz - LOL!!!

It was so cold today and didn't want to venture out. Will try and go tomorrow. I think I am too scared. I really want another little one but didn't expect it to happen so soon!!

Re party food for little one's 1st birthday. My lovely sister is making a no 1 cake and then we are going to have a few sandwiches, crisps, grapes and probably some sweeties and chocolate - well it is a party after all!!
