My cat will certainly be glad when LO is off to nursery, the poor thing is really suffering at the moment. I'm trying to teach stroking, but pulling is far more fun. I'm also eagerly making plans of how I'm going to spend my free time when LO goes to nursery as I can't see myself having any work lined up by the time LO is due to start on 1st Feb.

  • I have to say I did enjoy the peace and quiet yesterday!

I was a bit annoyed though that when I phoned the nursery at midday just to see how he was doing, they told me that he had been absolutely fine until a fire drill had happened, which scared the life out of him and set him off for ages :(

He was crying for a long time and very upset, and it took them quite a while to calm him down. Typical that should happen on his very first day

His sleeps all went up the wall too, and he wouldn't go down after lunch so when I picked him up at 2, his eyes were hanging down. I put him straight to bed when I got home and he went out like a light.

I do hope he fits into a routine there. Am I mad having him doing 2 days at a nursery, and 1 with a childminder? I think the CM routine will be much more flexible and she seems chilled and happy to follow my routine, wheras that just isn't possible at a nursery.

MMR jabs today too. dreading that :(

Itl jut take a while for things to click at the nursery,my wee man struggles to nap at my OHs parents house and they are going to be looking after him while I work but he will get used to it,just different surroundings and noises etc.I don't think doing Child minder and nursery is a bad idea, when bubs gets a bit bigger he will have 2 days at the inlaws and one day at nursery,it's good for them to be around lots of children

Ahh, that's a shame about the alarm MV. Poor thing :(

I don't think you're mad to split his care between a nursery and CM. We have to do the same and I'm sure it's very common as it's just not always possible to get care in the same place on all the days you need it.

Joe didn't used to nap very well at nursery and would come home shattered. But even if he then didn't nap very well with the CM, he's generally been fine having his naps at home at the weekend, so he slipped back into our routine easily.

Where does your DS nap at the nursery? Our nursery moved Joe into the 1 year olds room last week where they have their nap on mats on the floor. I was fully expecting that he would never sleep like that and would be running off thinking it was a big game, but he's actually been napping well. I suppose maybe if all of the children in the room are napping at the same time then it's nice and quiet, whereas before they'd put him in the cot room and there would probably be other babies having naps at different times who might wake him when they woke up.

But I'm sure he'll be fine. Babies are very adaptable ;)
You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.
  • At our nursery BB DS is in the baby room still, and they have 2 cots but those are generally for the younger babies to sleep on. DS and the other 1 year olds are on mats on the floor too, similar to your DS.

When I went to pick him up yesterday there were 2 LO's snoozing away soundly on the floor mats. I guess it's as you say Lab, they get used to different surroundings.

He was meant to be starting properly there today with a full day, but as I am having his MMR this afternoon he's obviously not going in. So he will start next Monday. I think it would have been better for him to start today as he would still be familiar with the place, but fingers crossed he will be ok next week.
