Ooh swimming lessons!! I did them with my Lily from 4months, until we moved away when she was 15months. Non of the pools around here do mum and baby structured lessons with badges that I wanted to do, just mum and baby splash time. But, in those 11 months, she learnt to get herself into the pool safely (yes at 10 months she could go from sitting, to turning herself onto her belly, lowering herself in and holding on the edge of the pool!) she sould do doggy paddle with armbands, and was happy to be ducked under the water to grab a toy from the step! She also could stand on the edge of the pool and jump into the water to be caught by me :) Have said to everyone since we moved away, our weekly lessons r the thing i miss most! xx

    Hi All.

    Hope you're feeling better Becles

We thought Joe had chicken pox just before Christmas as he came out in spots the day before Christmas Eve. He wasn't ill at all though, and they didn't seem to be itchy, so I've no idea what it was.

He did really well at Christmas as we were up visiting my folks, who had a house full - I think about 15 on Christmas Day. But Joe wasn't fazed at all - especially good considering he didn't know most of the people who were there.

I am trying very hard not to feel broody at the moment, so had probably better stay away from the new thread :o DH seems quite keen to start trying for another baby soon, but I kind of want to wait til Joe is a bit older so I can appreciate him without the distraction of another baby for a while longer. But then part of me wants to start asap since I'm not getting any younger. My plan was to start trying when Joe turns 2, by which time I'll be 38 - I need to find some way to stop myself from aging!

I also need to lose weight. The scales were not kind this morning :( I want to shift best part of 3 stone before we try again, so that will have to be my mission for the next 10 months.

Joe loves swimming. I'd have liked to carry on with lessons but can't find anywhere that does suitable classes on a Friday, which is my only day off.

Sounds like you had a nice christmas big bird.

Is hard deciding when to have a new baby. We were originally going to start trying oct time but now hoping to get married next May possibly so will be waiting till after then. I would love another one sooner but will enjoy spending more one on one time with Poppy.

Morning everyone! Hope everyone had a good Christmas!

Becles - hope you're feeling better. My DH had the lurgy (genuine, not man flu in fairness!)

DS loved swimming. We haven't been able to go for ages as he has had a permanent cold/chesty cough since starting nursery in Oct!

BigBird - could still be chickenpox! I only say this as my boy has it at the moment and Joe isn't much younger than him. Funnily enough the first spots appeared on 23rd December. He hasn't been totally covered in them but has been cutting his eye teeth at the same time and the nappy rash in combination with the chickenpox spots have made nappy changes awful. he's been screaming in pain and it has required one of us to hold him down while the other does a very rapid nappy change.

Like Joe he hasn't had a temperature, no itching that we have noticed and the spots seems to have crusted over and are going. The doctor confirmed chickenpox. My brother did tell me that a child who has it before 15 months will likely get it again at some point. I reckon this dose was so mild that he probably will get it again. It's either that or he got some immunity from me as he's still getting a couple of breast feeds a day.

So you never know - Joe may have had it and been lucky enough to have a mild dose! One piece of advice we were given which may have worked was bicarb of soda in the bath water! Stops the itching apparently and in fairness he hasn't tried scratching anywhere. He has pointed at one spot and said "ticka ticka" which we think means tickle tickle so we reckon it may have been a bit itchy but he didn't try and scratch it.

We started trying for no 2 but no luck as yet, I don't want a big age gap and it took us over 2 years to have DS so who knows how long it would take and I turn 37 soon (eek!!). We decided the other night that if our son was the only one we would ever have then we would accept that and be very grateful that we have had such a wonderful gift. However, we'll keep trying and accept what happens come what may. That was our new years resolution and will probably be a hard one to keep but we'll see what 2012 brings!

My word I can waffle when I get started!! Sorry! Right - have a little gurny boy to go and feed. Have a good day all!

Hi! Well swimming lesson number 1 went down a treat :-). He loved it! Really looking forward to next week already.

After my bold statements before I'm now not convinced about a second babe now. I adore DS but have found the reflux so hard...not sure I could do it again with a toddler as well.

Could definitely be chicken pox. First time I caught it I was 13 and had it very mild for just a few days. 2 years later i caught it again and was pretty poorly. DD had it 2 years ago and I didn't catch it again so must have immunity now.

Its very hard deciding when to have another baby. I have a 4 1/2 years gap between mine which makes things easy but is a larger age gap than i would have chosen.

I'm trying to lose weight too. However having spent the last 12 months eating whatever I feel like it's not very easy!!!!

Chicken pox is going around. My niece (age 4) had it just before Christmas and missed her play and party at school, then my nephew (6 months) had it over Christmas.

My Mam has never had it. She was in contact with friends when she was a child and never caught it, and then me and my brother had it as children, and she's looked after all of mine when they've had it, yet she's never caught it herself!
Here I go again on my own....

Maybe Joe did have a very mild dose of chicken pox then. We were lucky that he wasn't ill with it. My parents would have been gutted if we'd not been able to visit them over Christmas.

Well, we've had a fun morning. Joe woke up just before 4 and would not go back to sleep. He wanted to chatter and have the lights on, which we weren't entertaining at all. He screamed the place down if we left him. We eventually decided to try controlled crying, so he retaliated by throwing himself out of his cot! He eventually went to sleep at around 6. Our alarm goes off at 6:30 and knowing I had a maximum of half an hours sleep left kept me awake :( Really not looking forward to a 10 hour working day today. I'll probably be needing matchsticks to keep my eyes open by lunchtime!

Joe's Childminder mentioned this morning that she'll have a space on a Friday from September when one of her older children starts school. We need to decide now whether to see if I can switch my working days so Joe can go to her Tuesday - Friday, rather than having one day at nursery and 3 with the CM as he does at the moment.

  • Morning all, hope you don't mind me crashing but I've just started a thread in the health sub forum about exercise/housework when at home with the kiddies, I don't know if any of you might like to join me in my quest?
